Using course with custom course points, without Turn-By-Turn

I know this has been discussed and I've tried to use previous threads instructions unsuccessfully.

My current attempt:

Create track (Basecamp)
Upload to Garmin Connect
Add Course points
Download as fit from garmin connect (This is what I read should work)
Put in NewFiles folder on the watch using USB connection

When I follow the instructions above and start "Do Course" my next waypoint shown doesn't have a label and is 30 meters away whereas the custom point should be a few kilometers away and have a label.

I'm assuming the waypoint that don't have label is Course Points that Garmin Connect adds for Turn by Turn.

Is there a way to make this work with certainty??

Yes, this is the way but in the first way in the past you could have TBT and distance to next course point.

Yes also us :)

In the past was possibile, Garmin used waypoint and course point as different kind of point and this made some confusions.

I hope Garmin is trying to semplify but not removing this possibility.

You have to use [email protected] that is for Fenix.

In my opinion could be good also to add Garmin Connect team but I do not know the e-mail.

You could add in copy [email protected] that are sure in contact with GC dev.

For running (and I presume other activities) the map screen is customizable (v6) and I have a choice of:

1. Map only.
2. Map with dist to next waypoint.
3. Map with dist to next waypoint and distance fields.

Maybe that is what the OP is looking for?

Don't think so. It is wanting to be able to create a course with custom course points, but without automatically added course points after every sharp turn. The way it is currently working, "Dist To Next" will show the distance to the next sharp turn, not the course point you added. Kind of useless on a trail where there might be hundreds of sharp turns just because of things like switchbacks.

I just noticed the workaround in Garmin Connect is working again. I don't know about Basecamp. If you download a course to your computer or to an Edge 1030 (530/830?) you get a course with just the custom course points and not all the automatic course points that mess up your file on trails with lots of turns and switchbacks.

So if you don't want the numerous automatic course points:
1. select download to computer - .FIT file
2. copy the downloaded file to the Garmin\NewFiles folder on the device

Seams that now you don't need to do the workaround and simply send the track from GC to the device. With Edge 830 is working... but only if you create track and course point with GC Web and not GC Mobile.

Correct. But that’s how it used to work on the 1030 before it was broken. Basically it appears functionality has returned to what it was a couple months ago.

Please somebody test on Fenix 6 to confirm, I had create a new track and I hope to do it tomorrow.

If they solved will be possible to have turn by turn and distance to the new course point together without any issue.

This does work on the F6 for me, if you download to your computer and then copy to the new files folder. Having Garmin Connect "Send to Device" does not work as it will insert all the extra course points.
