I have the same problem with the watch even from the beginning... No chance to remove empty playlists out of the watch. Update version 5 did not solve the problem. Please help as fast as possible. Maybe as Christmas gift... I have 20 playlists on the watch I can see only the half of them in garmin express. New version from express under Windows 10 did not also solve the issue.
I don't use the My Music on the watch, I use spotify, so I haven't run into this before. I did just create a play list in Windows 10 using WMP then sent that to the watch. The play list showed up under My Music on the watch. The playlist didn't show up in GCE.
I opened the watch up over USB and saw there was a test.m3u8 file under Music. Trying to delete that file wasn't possible, it would throw a "This device isn't functioning" indicating the OS of the watch seemingly wasn't allowing the file to be deleted. So I mass selected everything in the folder and deleted it. Everything except the test.m3u8 file disapeared.
Rebooted the watch and the test.m3u8 file no longer exists.
So that might be an option to explore, can't say you'll get the same results but that's what I did to try to replicate the issue and resolve the issue.
The BUG is that if you now go to the My Music on the watch, you can still see your playlist and if you try to open it, it will say it has 0 music inside.
Only an hard reset will delete this playlist from the watch. Not a solution in any case.
Same issue here. I am trying to compile as much information on this bug as possible. If you find any additional posts regarding this, please feel free to add it to the forum entry. I also encourage everyone encountering this problem to write Garmin costumer support via email as well. The more noise we make, the better.
Sidenote: As a workaround I tried to use the "Album" feature of the MyMusic app by changing the corresponding mp3 tag to the same name for the music I wanted to group, only to find out that this feature is riddled with bugs as well!
Same issue. Getting quite a big set of empty playlists.
No way to delete with the app or with the file browser on windows.
Only technique that works is resting watch and that is APITA.
I've just bought a new Garmin Fenix Pro watch and connected to Spotify. I was able to add playlists onto my Garmin (I presume saving the songs for offline use). I can't however find any way to delete playlists and free up memory. No amount of googling has turned up an answer!! Please help. I really don't want to have to resort to going back to factory settings every time and then spend hours resettnig my watch up all over again any time I want to change up a playlist!! Is this a bug??
I hoped you used the Garmin Express App to put the music on.
Connect watch to PC via USB cable.
Add your watch (assuming you haven't used it before)
Select Music:
Your watch's Music will show up in the bottom half of the left hand frame
Select "Playlists" from your watches section of the left hand frame.
Select the playlists you want to remove and hit remove from device.
Now comes the dumb (bug) part.
You also have to remove each song in the playlist. So you'll need a list of songs at hand.
Select "Songs" from your watches section of the left hand frame.
Select the songs that were in the playlist you deleted.
You can also select Album/Artist to group the songs and select them that way if that meta data was interpreted correctly by garmin.
The tricky part for me is that the my mp3 files don't have tags that garmin correctly parses and my song names, artist, or albums are frequently "Unknown" or a list of numbers and I have to delete them by length and some guessing.
If this is to complicated you can always delete everything and then put the stuff you want back with Garmin Express.
If you didn't us the Garmin Connect App you can always try to use the file browser and browse to music and delete stuff but that is what leads to problems like having to factory reset your phone.
Let me know if you need more help
