New Fenix 6 Sapphire No Light

I have a new Fenix 6 Sapphire and right out of the box the light button does not work. I did a factory reset and the same thing was happening. I tried a software update now and that also isn't working. When I'm in a dark room you can't see the screen at all and the light button does nothing for the screen. Holding the light button brings up a menu so I know the button itself is working.

The backlight is set to on for keys during activity and not.

Any ideas or do I have to call Garmin?

Auto update is on. It is connected to wifi. About says software version 3.00

I believe that you have to return it. Does the gesture works?

Ugh. No the gesture doesn't work. I bought it online so sounds like I will have to talk to them. Not a great experience for my first Garmin purchase.

What percentage do you have the backlight set too?

What settings do you have in the Backlight menus? Please detail all of them. Sorry if that's asking a bit much but it will allow is to see if there is a setting that you might have overlooked as well as give you an opportunity to check all of the settings.

Have you tried changing the bulb? Seriously though, if it's not a setting issue, return or exchange it.

Under Backlight:
Keys: On
Alerts: On
Gesture: On
Timeout: 8 seconds
Brightness: 50%

I am currently running that for during activity and not during activity. I have tried Brightness set 20%, 50%, 90%, and 100%.

Unfortunately it does like you will need to contact Garmin. However, try a factory reset first. You'll lose any settings you've made though - Settings, System, Reset, Delete data and reset settings.

This combinations of buttons worked on earlier devices to do a real clear out of the system -

With the watch powered off, hold the two right buttons, <Start/Stop> and <Back>, while turning the device on by pressing and releasing the light button.
Wait for an audible beep and release the <Start/Stop> button.
Wait for a second audible beep and release the <Back> button.

Not needed to try it on a F6.

It let me reset both ways but the first type of reset took longer. With doing both it still isn't working. Looks like I'll try calling Garmin tomorrow. Thanks.

Had the same issue. Eventually replaced the watch as I was still concerned, but try accessing the forced test mode. (Power off, hold Down, press Light until Garmin logo appears, release Down until you see the menu). From there press Back to enter the screen test mode with colored graphics which should light up the screen if there isn't a hardware issue. Try to cycle through the graphics with Start or wait a bit which worked for me. If problem persists I would get it replaced.
