Exclusive measurements/tests using Chest HR monitor?

I will buy a Chest Heart Rate monitor but I have a lot of doubts:

Can I use another brand or just Garmin chest HR sensor are compatible for the following tests and measurements?

HRV stress test (heart rate variability);

- Lactate Threshold Guided Test;

- FTP Guided Test;

I known that the Fenix 6 can do that using a chest hr sensor paired, but can it be a Polar, Wahoo or another brand?

 Or those measurements/tests just can be done with a Garmin Chest HR sensor?

Is there another test or measurement that just a Chest HR test can do? Of course, besides better measurements at interval training) .

My problem with Garmin Chest Straps is that the sensor and the strap are glued together, so I will by the Garmin Dual or some from Polar or Wahoo.

  • , you can start your activity, monitor your HR without the watch and synchronize with the watch ate the end of the exercise in two ways:

    - HRM-TRI/SWIM + Garmin watch

    - Polar H10 + Vantage watches…

  • I never did a HRV test, but for the lactate, vo2max, FTP, every thing work fine with a my polar H10. For the run, I have a garmin hrm-run. it s really nice to have the dynamic data, it help me to optimize my run. For the FTP, you need a power meter on your bike. Or, in my case, my tacx neo training do the job...during the winter.

  • Thank you. I'm glad that those tests works with another brand.

    I would like to have the running dynamics too but next year I will buy a STRYD that's much more precise and have all the running dynamics.

    The only problem that keeps me away from Garmin is the glued sensor.

    That's because I wanna buy another brand or model with detachable sensor from the strap, the Garmin strap is so weak that lasts a year, dozens of bad reviews saying the same thing.

    You could do the HRV stress test in just 3 minutes, just need to put the sensor, sit down and press the button.

  • If you don't mind I also have a question for those who have a non-Garmin HR strap. Can Fenix download the HR data from the strap after finishing the activity as is the case with the HRM-Tri one? I am also thinking about a Polar strap.

  • , what you want uses the memory of the hrm-run and hrm-swim. It records the hr data and synchronize with the watch at the END of the activity.

    The Polar H10 also have memory but as far as I know the Garmin watches can just work live with non Garmin chest straps. H10 will transmit live data to the watch using ANT+ and the recorded data can be send to the Polar Flow/Beat systems.

    Probably you can transmit by Bluetooth and ant+ (Garmin watch + cellphone Polar app) , but I don't know if you can record the data to send to Polar apps later at the same time it transmit live Tova Garmin watch.

    Someone with a Polar H10 could test to tell us.

  • Thank you, yes I am using a HRM-Tri at the moment it stores the data and syncs after the session.

    My use-case is simple, I don't want to wear the watch on my yoga classes so I use the chest strap but it feels uncomfortable during some movements. I was just wondering if there was a strap I could wear on my arm and it could also store and sync the session data after it's finished.

  • No, I think the store-and-download-later functionality only works with Garmin straps (TRI and SWIM) at the moment. The standards on this download-later functionality are pretty murky, and I think most devices (Garmin, Suunto, Polar, Wahoo, Scosche, etc) pretty much only work in their own little ecosystem, and don't really work with other vendors. Although at least for live HR transmission, standards are pretty solid.

  • , you can start your activity, monitor your HR without the watch and synchronize with the watch ate the end of the exercise in two ways:

    - HRM-TRI/SWIM + Garmin watch

    - Polar H10 + Vantage watches or smartphone.

    But you can use a Polar H10 + Garmin watch if you leave the watch near you, 10 meters maximum range and the watch will record HR live.

    It's a Yoga class, you can leave the watch at the floor near you.

    If a chest strap is uncomfortable for you, you can use a optical Polar OH1. You can use it at your upper arm or at your temple while swimming. It will work the same way as described above but you will not have r-r data, just chest straps can capture this.

    I have a tactix delta, same as Fenix 6 essentially, and he polar 10 seems to work on its own using ant or Bluetooth. I have to test again.

    But

    Polar h10 has two Bluetooth slots as well as ant. So it should be able to connect with polar flow and the Garmin watch. It does but the Garmin keeps dropping the connection.

    I called Garmin, they said they don't test their watches with other hr monitors. So they only test em with Garmin so I have to buy Garmin.

    This sux and is scammy they don't put a disclaimer. If you have a hrm and want to dual connection you'll have to buy a Garmin.

    When you pay 1000+ for a watch and this *** happens you might feel a tad ripped off.

    How do you know the problem isn’t with the Polar H10? There’s a number of reports of disconnection issues and dual channel Bluetooth - not only with Garmin but with Apple Watch and Polar’s own watches & app.

  • Hi! I ordered a belt like this. The name of its Premium. It takes into account running data. It has a removable sensor. www.amazon.com/.../ref=sr_1_2
