Nothing seems accurate - is it me, my watch or Garmin in general?

I've had my fēnix 6 for 10 days. I love it. I love the way it feels, looks and operates. However. Nothing that it measures seems to be accurate.

My sleep is way out. I got 10 hours the other night apparently (I haven't had 10 hours sleep since I was 8 years old!).

I train every morning doing floor climb. My iPhone gets it right to the level (I climb 100 floors with a pack on). My fenix counted 23 floors!

When I glance at the watch my heart rate sits at around 80bpm when actually its in the low 50s (strangely, when I use an app on my iPhone to measure my heart rate, the fenix suddenly becomes accurate???)

The watch itself says "Software Version 2.20 (d052960)" , but when I plug it into Garmin Express it says "Software Version: 4.30". Why would that be?

Have I bought a dud?

Any thoughts would be greatly welcome (I haven't spent hours researching solutions as I don't really have time - apologies in advance if there's something obvious I've not done)

PS. I have a good friend who works for a GPS performance and tracking software company and he says Garmin, whilst the best brand available, are known in the industry to be inaccurate.

Garmin is very bad with everything this is not your watch only my aswell is so bad with everything this device is not worth this price trust me my friend.

  • And this is why I use training peaks.

  • I'll assume you're getting similar results? I'll have to check out Training Peaks.

  • Yeah, I'm a premium member on Training Peaks. To me ,it's worth the money..It takes a while to understand it but they gave a lot of articles explaining the site using TSS. It is the reason I will switch to apple watch soon as all I really need is ACCURATE information from the watch and training peaks will do the rest.

  • Perfect example of why I laugh at the Garmin metrics. This one concerns body battery. Both Wednesday and Tuesday nights I slept 8 hours. On Wednesday I lifted weights for an hour and a half and  did 30 minutes indoor bike. Body battery down to 5 at 10PM. Yesterday, Thanksgiving I did no workouts at all, just eating. At 10 PM my body baterry was 10. I burned 1100 active calories on Wednesday and 230 on Thursday. Lol. Makes No sense.

  • It has to work for you, because we're using the metrics for different reasons !

I'm not happy with guidelines , I want and pay for 100% accurate metrics !

I don't want a guessing devaice , I can guess myself some of the metrics. The watch is advertised for being able to provide a lot of metrics with acurate precision , but they mislead people about that .

Isn't advertised as a guidelines watch , is endorsed as a professional tool.  The data that provide has no value since is inaccurate !

  • For my nothing is working properly , from the GPS to time telling , stuff like bodybaterry ,sleep monitoring, pulse OX , respiratory rate etc are just gimmicky !

On the end I purchased a gimmick watch , endorsed by the professional athletes !  With the money that I have spent on this guessing device I could both a real watch with very precise mechanisms !

I don't know what you mean.  What has to work for me?

Where are you getting your information?  Would you, or George who voted your post a thumbs up, please provide your reference?  This is my reference and it contradicts everything you've posted.  Garmin states:

  • Since I can't reply to your last comment , I reply here !

Are you working for them ? For Garmin ?    Are you a customer or fanboy of Garmin ? I will begin been censored because of my comments ?

What have George to do with my comments?

Is a free man , he can like or dislike wherever he wants !

All my statements are true since I allowed Garmin to collect my data from my devices and I can guarantee the veracity of my claims when I claim that Garmin devices are inaccurate and unreliable.  I have some examples of the haw using a Garmin inaccurate device , I can have been almost to louse a fortune because of inaccurate information that device provide !

  • Are you working for them ? For Garmin ?    Are you a customer or fanboy of Garmin ? I will begin censored because of my comments

Because I questioned your post?  LOL

I claimed Garmin was inaccurate and unreliable. I said from the very beginning that I understood Garmin's metrics were nothing more than an estimation and guidelines and those were getting worse in my option.  It was you who stated Garmin advertised as being "endorsed as a professional tool by professional athletes".  It was you who said Garmin advertised with "accurate precision", and you who said Garmin has "mislead people".  I just provided you with Garmin's disclaimer and asked for your reference to your comments.  Why are you know getting upset with me?  They were your comments. You can either reference your claims about Garmin or if you can't, your comments should be dismissed as unsubstantiated.

What have George to do with my comments?

He agrees with you.  Isn't it obvious what he has to do with your comments?

Is a free man , he can like or dislike wherever he wants

No argument there.  He is free to like or dislike whatever he wants, just as I'm free to ask him a question.  Why would you have an issue with this when your obviously an advocate for freedom of speech?
