Bluetooth connection problems with ANT/BLE 4.30

Since I installed the ANT/BLE 4.30 update I roughly lose the connection with my Pixel 3 every 24-36 hours (often overnight). This has been a problem before the update as well but I has become worse. Before the 6X I had the 5X where the connection was very stable.

  • Yes, I lost connection (for the first time in 2-3 months since I bought the 6X) with my Pixel 3XL running Android 10 yesterday. I tried restarting the phone and the Fenix 6s, turning bluetooth on/off, multiple times, with no joy. When trying to pair, the operation would fail with setup at about 20%, just at the point where the Garmin app was asking the watch to display a 6 digit code (which was never displayed). After a long timeout, it would say it failed, and offered to retry (which didn't help). Bluetooth was working between both devices (the Pixel found the 6x).

Removing the Fenix 6x device from the Garmin app and re-adding it did not help. Force-quitting the Garmin app and restarting did not help.

What finally did solve the problem was to uninstall the Garmin app and reinstall it. Pairing then worked fine.

  • I actually had to reboot my phone and/or my watch and then it usually worked but as I said before never had such problems with my 5X (also with the Pixel 3).

  • One other thing I did was to remove the pairing with the 6X from my phone's bluetooth settings (my recollection is that the 6X didn't appear anywhere in the list of connected or previously connected devices when I first had connection problems yesterday; it only appeared later). I can't recall when I removed the pairing with respect to uninstalling the Garmin app. So it is possible that this influenced the outcome.

  • Experienced a similar issue this morning. Woke up to find my Fenix 6 Pro wasn't connected to my Pixel 3a and Garmin Connect couldn't recognise it either. WiFi sync still worked, however. Took several steps to resolve it, including rebooting both devices and reinstalling Connect. Never had Bluetooth issues before the 4.30 came along.

after last update my jbl are not working.i can hear music 1 second, then it stops a second later and so on..really annoying...

  • How is your BT connection to audio headsets?  I use the Galaxy Buds and took it out for the first time using the watch to play music to the buds, the experience was pretty bad, constant drop outs while running.  At home with my arm steady it seems fine.  Anyone else have this issue?

  • That was my experience today while on a run. For me this was the first time i used the watch to play music during a run.  It was pretty terrible, like you say, constant dropouts.

  • This is exactly what I had two times now with the Fenix 6x Sapphire connected to a Huawei P30 Pro.

First time I deleted everything starting from scratch and the second time I just connected my BT Headphones and a second later the Fenix connected to the smartphone again.

Same to me too, but with Samsung S10+.

Removing the Fenix 6x device from the Garmin app and re-adding it didn't help.

Uninstalling the Garmin Connect app and reinstall + reset the watch didn't solve the problem.

    Constant dropouts.
