Backlight always on during activity

After an auto upgrade to 4.30 on my 6 Pro, backlite is always on during activities no matter what is configured in "backlite / during activity" config. I tried gesture on, off, after sunset, different timeout - all this doesn't affect this wrong behaviour.

What is especially strange, this problem happens during all running and cycling activities. Everything works correct when I use "pool swim" activity.

Any ideas how to solve the issue?

I tried "Delete data and reset setting", but it didn't help.

I'm quite tired running around as Christmas tree with light always on. )))

  • Is backlight only on during activities? Mine is always on. :D However, it's in a very dim mode, even lower than the 5% setting of the watch...

Someone reported a similar issue with their Fenix 5 a year or two ago, I remember. Garmin told them to send it in for warranty replacement.

Personally, I think I'd keep it - I'd kind of like my watch always being illuminated at, say, 2%. Should be enough to read the time in the middle of the night, but not so bright that it's distracting or a major battery drain.

Anyways, your watch technically isn't supposed to do that, so it's a defect.

Regarding the original question, did you check the backlight timeout setting for "during activity"? I have my timeout turned off intentionally, so that my backlight is always on during activities (but only after sunset).

Yes, I tried all possible timeouts and it didn't help. It's quite strange that it's on during particular activities, not even all of them. So most probably it's a software issue.

This gesture mode was working great and it was one of my favourite features of my new fenix, so I would really like to get it back. ))))

Except this, I do a lot of trainings after sunset and it's quite annoying to run with backlight on, it reminds me that something's wrong with my watches and this distracts me. )))

Fortunately, I isolated the problem. It was a data field that caused this behaviour of backlight.

I contacted data field developer, and he confirmed that it's an app issue. )))

  • Perhaps you can tell us, which iq data field is causing the issue?

It was rolling average app. Great app btw, absolutely reliable, I use it for a long time and highly recommend it. I'm a little bit old school so I run by pace, not by power. But stryd's pace is a bit too stochastic, so it has to be averaged and that's why I use this app.
