Power Modes - During and Not During Activity

Hi

I was going through the power mode settings on the F6 Pro and figured out that these can only be configured for during an activity. Is there any possibility to manage all the connections/sync settings while in watch mode?

For example, lets say that I have half a dozen of sensors paired for my bike ride and my phone connection ON because of Live Tracking. When I arrive home and stop the activity, the watch will kind of endlessly keep on looking for those previoulsy connected sensors (although my bike is out of range in the basement) until I switch their statuses to "off" one by one (which is a PITA to go to the submenu and scroll around).

If there were Power Modes for Watch mode, or just a general "Power menu"  or "Connectivity Menu" from where one could switch on/off all the power drainer services (BT, WiFi, Sensors, so on) it would be much easier to govern the battery drain, than from indivivual Menus and Submenus.

Is there a solution for this which I am missing or something?

  • Control menu: add airplane mode (of= BT/WiFi/ANT are disabled)

  • That would indeed be a solution, but I see no Airplane mode in the Control menu.

Are you sure about this? Aren't the sensors only looked for when in an activity? Pretty sure that this happens when I have the activity selected, but not when I revert back to the watch face. I haven't checked for a while but I remember testing this by firing up a chest strap and spinning bike wheels and cranks while just on the watch face. Sure, if I dive into the Sensors and Accessories settings the sensors were connected but I take that as only happening because I was there.

How have you verified/checked that the sensors are connected/ searched from a watch face?

  • I agree with @philipshambrook - opening the sensors menu starts the process of the watch looking for sensors. If it is just in watch mode, it won't look for sensors.

If you want to confirm this, at the end of a bike ride, save the activity, go to watch mode then immediately open a new activity - you will see the sensors connect almost immediately. Now do the same again, but wait 5 minutes after your ride before opening a new activity. You should see that you have to wake the sensors up by spinning the cranks/wheels before they connect. Most sensors shut down after 2-5 minutes of no activity AND no head unit connection. So if you see no sensors after 5 minutes in watch mode, you can be confident that it is not searching for sensors in watch mode.

  • Have you looked at turning on Battery Saver mode?

After I updated to 4.63 I have found the Airplane mode.

That is a good point. I cannot prove that the watch is "searching endlessly" for the sensors. Based on my F5 experience, I had the Battery Usage widget which seemed to indicate an ever so slight increase in battery usage per hour (in watch mode) when I did not turn the sensor statuses off. However, this might not have been the reason why.

You should see that you have to wake the sensors up by spinning the cranks/wheels before they connect. Most sensors shut down after 2-5 minutes of no activity AND no head unit connection.

This is also an interesting experiment. I will test this today.

Yesterday I have updated to 4.63, and there it can be set what options one wants ON or OFF. I am not sure that it was there before on 4.30

This together with the sensor topic seems dismiss my worries. Thank you all!
