Garmin coach - any way to turn off alerts?

Hi guys,

I'm trying Garmin coach based training and many are intervals where you have to hit certain pace within a narrow spread. This is always difficult and the watch is constantly beeping that I'm either too fast or too slow. Would be great if I could somehow turn that off. I would only like to see my current pace and the range I'm supposed to be in ... but no warnings/alerts when I'm out of the required range. Any ideas? Thanks!

Best,

Marek

  • Pace and HR ranges always seem to set off alerts... that quickly get annoying.  so, what I do is give a pretty wide range.  If my target pace is 6:15/mi.... then I'll set the pace range on my intervals to something like 5:50 to 6:40.  If you set it to 6:10-6:20... you're just asking for trouble.  the other way is to set your intervals, and don't put a specific target pace in.  Just put it in the title of the interval stage to it tells you what to run.

  • I don’t think that’s possible. It’s meant to bother you with guidance, that’s why you have those plans.

As a side note, though, I’d like to point out that when I run with a foot pod (Stryd in my case), staying in a narrow pace zone is not a problem at all. But when I forget to charge it and pace is derived from GPS - damn, I totally agree that holding a steady pace is almost impossible. Even on the track it shows 4, then 7, then 6 and I’m running steady 5:30. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have a foot pod. Probably I would stop using Garmin Coach.

  • I bought Garmin Foot Pod for that reason .. so far I did only one run with it so I'm not sure but ... it did not help much. I wonder ... do you have your Stryd foot pod set to provide distance as well as pace? Because I set it to only provide pace .. but ... maybe the training app is using distance (in my case still GPS) per time and calculates pace. I'll try to set my foot pod to also report distance when outdoor to see if "pace" stabilizes when using Garmin Coach training. Although ... I'm bit reluctant since the Garmin Foot Pod is not as accurate as Stryd so when doing various intervals it will not be very precise.

For me would be maybe enough if I could just turn off the beeping ... It's a bit annoying that there is no setting for the Coach app.

  • Oh yeah; pace AND distance always from Stryd. And both always very accurate. No idea how precise is Garmin foot pod, never even seen one.

  • Garmin, please turn off in desired zone notifications

  • You could also switch to HR Zones, at least the daily suggestions offer that. This should be way easier to achieve, because you don´t fluctuate as much in these. Also environment would be no factor. For Example running uphill (even slight) would change your training focus while trying to hit a specific speed. Hr is "slower" to rise and fall, so this should be easier (Except for really short intervalls where HR "lags behind")

  • I'm just jumping on the bandwagon asking for an option to turn off alerts. Especially annoying with hard segments when it's dark, I want the only alerts to be start/end of segment.

  • I'd also like to be able to turn these off. Pace becomes a less useful metric when you're running in a variety of areas with different grades and elevation changes. The visual feedback on the data screen is enough.
