using the workout activity for the gym

Hi , 

I have a F6x Sapphire and i wonder how to best use the workout activity for tracking my gym workouts. 
Normally it allows for tracking series of each exercise and edit the weights if i need to. Its a bit of a chore and i would rather focus on the workout. 

Question is , if I just start the activity and let it on let's say for the 1 hour workout, will the end result be the same in terms of calories and how the watch will determine my regeneration, fitness level etc ?
