Spots on display/glass 6x Sapphire

Hi,

I noticed some spots on my screen. When you wipe it it will be crystal clear but when putting a finger over it the spots come back the same way.

Buying this watch is really the most bad decision every made.... Sofware wise in first but this happening after paying 850 euros is not normal. This also considering all the issues that others also have..

  • I’ve had a F3Sapp, F Chronos and a F5Sapp with none of them losing a coating within a couple of days/weeks. So either the process to produce sapphire glass changed since F5 so that Garmin now needs some „protective coating as a result of the manufacturing process“ or there just is anything wrong with the coating that is acutally meant to stay at the glass.

And yes: glass never is absorbing but if you cannot read you watch due to different levels of repellency I doubt this is wanted for an outdoor watch ;-)

  • Does this look „as wanted“ to you? You can barely read the watch...

  • That's gone a long way from your original post. If you believe that to be an issue, (personally I'd just be wiping the glass and getting on with the activity as I do when swimming but that's me) contact Garmin Support.

  • But please remember: don’t wipe with a finger Stuck out tongue winking eyeJoy

Got on the phone and my watch will be swapped with a new one.  So hope the new one is instantly fresh :)

  • Did you get any information about the coating? Is it an issue or is it a:

    result of the manufacturing process

Please keep us updated. Don't want to RMA mine if the new one loses coating again within a couple of days...

They didn't really said anything about this but after I pointed it out they said they will give me a new one. Send my watch back in today and will see with the new one if it happens again. If so I think I will ask my money back and buy myself an Fenix 5X Plus.

  • OK. Let me know what happens with the new one, thanks!

But why do you not just rma it for a new one and point the issues out on this forum...

It is an expensive watch and it is not normal. I noticed it Saturday and called them this morning right away :)

  • Sapphire doesn't have a coating.

Some people seem to have received sapphire watches with an imperfectly polished surface. These imperfections collect fingerprint oil. The imperfections appear to go away when you wipe off the oil. They come back when oil gets on them again. It's not magic, and it's really not a mystery.

OP and you received ones with polishing flaws. Sorry to hear about that. But Garmin doesn't make the sapphire lenses. They buy them from a 3rd party. They just order a pile of them, and install them into their watches. Some are bound to have imperfections. Exchange it for a new one, or send it back to Garmin. It's really as simple as that... I don't know why people are arguing about this.

FWIW, I've used and abused, accidentally banged against walls and floors and branches and rocks, showered with, and *gasp* even rubbed my fingers on my 6X sapphire glass for over 2 months now, and it is still perfect. So there is not an inherent design flaw. Some people just got a bad one. Get a new one and move on with your life.
