FENIX 6 IS NOT FOR RUNNING!

Write on the box in capital letters: FENIX 6 IS NOT FOR RUNNING!

It can be a good watch for hiking (when positioning once an hour), it can be a good watch for a bicycle (when they constantly look at the sky), but it is a terrible watch for running. GPS track is not accurate and not true (only GPS, GPS+GLONASS or GPS+GALLILOE – no matter). Accordingly, all indicators and recommendations based on GPS measurements are not true, because they are based on false data.

And I understand that this is all because of the new chip from Sony.

Ok, I solved the problem with a false heart rate by buying HRM-Run! Ok, I solved the problem with false sleep (which I manually fix every morning). But I can not do anything with the recording curve of the GPS track: during the run I FLY from one sides of the six-lane highway to its other side. Accordingly, my pace is false and everything else!

Some advise turning the clock 90 degrees - to always look at the sky and see more satellites, some advise not to move your hand, but these are terrible tips!

How can elite (and expensive) sports watches be so stupid and not cope with their basic functions?

I think that Garmin engineers should recognize the real problem and propose an alternative mode for those who want to have an accurate GPS track and ready for a loss of charge: “recording mode with a frequency of twice a second” or “increased power mode for the antenna”, but what we have now is a complete disaster!

Once again: now Phoenix 6 is not for running!

  • I have a 6S sapphire and I get completely accurate GPS track and I run in the woods under heavy tree cover. If mine was as bad as you describe I'd be exchanging it for another.  Your post is a bit over the top if you haven't even contacted Garmin about it yet.

  • Your post is a bit over the top

Unfortunately, this seems to be the norm around here lately.

  • I don't know... mine works great for running, and everything else I've tried it with so far (hiking, trail running, yoga, kayaking).

If you think it's defective, exchange it. If you just don't like it, then return it and try something else. It isn't complicated, and you could do it in less time than it took you to write this rant.

Edit: I love how posts where people say "My watch works fine" get downvoted by the same 3 people every time.

  • I use my 6x Pro for running and Swimming Laps.  With Software version 3.00 it is working very well.  But now Garmin Connect is bugging out.  I can't win for losing, or lose for winning?  Slight smile

I'm scared to "upgrade" the firmware until I see posts saying heart rate and connectivity issues have been fixed, for the most part.

My F6 Pro Titanium is best Garmin watch I've owned. I find it very accurate for running, especially distances. :)

  • I've followed your story about returning the watch & keeping the new one's firmware at 3.00, so I can definitely understand your hesitation. While I can't promise the new 4.20 firmware will work perfectly on your watch, I will say (for whatever it's worth) that 4.20 is running perfectly fine on my 6X, I'm not having any of the issues you're worried about.

  • Hi and thanks for the info.  Can you please post what phone you are using?  If running, what external sensors and headphones you use?

    Thanks you!

  • You got so many issue with yours, it makes me feel like one of the chosen.
Zero issues on my Fenix 6 Titanium even when running.
What is happening ! Is this a miracle ? No fast heart fate, no false sleep, no drifting in GPS tracking...

And the worst new is: I do love that Fenix 6 more than my previous Garmin: Instinct, 5Xplus and 5X.

Oh what am I going to do ? Am I authorized to continue to enjoy mine despite your bad experience ?

  • Android phone (Pixel 3 XL). Only external sensor I'm using is a Tempe. Haven't tried headphones.

  • Ahh, probably why you aren't having any problems.

    I'm using:

    • iPhone X
    • Airpods 2
    • Tempe
    • Running Dynamics Pod
    • Foot Pod
    • Scosche Rythm+ heart rate band

I have a lot of connected devices there.   They work fine on my apple watch and also work fine on my Fenix without the updates.  In fact, my Airpods connect quicker and easier to my Fenix than my AW!   So I'm not messing with anything above 3.0 until I get a feel that these things are working great.
