Fenix 6 series not reading Cadence from Kickr Core.

I have a Wahoo Kickr Core (Direct Drive indoor smart trainer) that I use to train for my cycling needs. I have recently purchased a Fenix 6x Saphire. The trainer can transmit Power and Cadence. The trainer has no problem because the application that I use for training (Zwift) does record Power and cadence from the trainer. I am recording my sessions on my Fenix also to get the training benefit from Garmin Connect. When I try to connect my trainer to the watch I get only power readings But can't get the watch to connect to cadence .

Anyone has a similar problem or has been able to connect the cadence measurement from a Kickr Core to a Fenix 6?

  • Hi,

My Garmin watch is able to detect and connect to my smart trainer, wahoo kickr core, but when I start a bike activity and despite the fact that I'm seeing the PowerMeter icon on the top of the watch screen, the watch doesn't receive any data (power or speed). If I use the wahoo app, or even Zwift for example, I don't have this kind of issue. It looks that is a fenix 6 software bug.

    Can someone help?

Hi, I am also having this problem. I am using Kickr core with Fenix 6. Can’t read the power or speed from the trainer while my older fenix 3 can read with no problem. Not sure what happened really. Can anyone suggest something ?

I did remove the power meter sensor and readd, rebooted the watch, but still not helping.

Just as a side note, I have reached out to wahoo but they said that the problem seemed to he on the garmin side. While it is common for a company to say that their product  works flawlessly the truth is that I have zero problems connecting my trainer with pc (zwift and sufferfest) through both bt and ANT+. Only problem seems to be the cadence connection to the fenix 6

Thanks for the reply. I have the same problem with you actually.  My fenix 3 HR and Fenix 5 (loaned) tested to be working well with the Trainer. I also connect the Wahoo to my Laptop (with ANT+ USB, and my zwift can read everything normally).

Just so puzzled with this situation. Not sure whom to approach also.

  • Same here. All my other Garmin devices work just fine, but not the Fenix 6 Sapphire

  • I have the Kickr (2018) and the Fenix 6 Sapphire -- I can occasionally get it to read power, but not cadence or speed

I have FR945 and is experiencing the following:

Pairing Kickr to 945 via ANT+

See power and speed on 945, but cadence remains 0.  It’s odd that when flywheel is not spinning, the cadence reads - - -, and when it starts spinning it changes to 0.  It means 945 is getting the signal but just not reporting the right number.

Opened up Wahoo app and see power, speed and cadence working fine in the app.

Reached out to wahoo support and they suggest unpair and pair again, and update to the latest 945 firmware(which I have).

    Problem remains unsolved

  • i use the garmin cadence and speed sensors without problems.
