Fenix 6 display problem fault poor quality

Here we can continue to discuss our experiences with Garmin Fenix 6 which does not seem to be well described/advertised and it caused lot of misunderstanding around the forum. There are some users with displays that got deep colours, especially black colour, and owners of F6 with blue hue, in both cases we are talking about situation when the backlight is on. In daylight both displays look same and very good.

Here is the link to original thread which has been closed by Garmin as, I think, people were arguing and repeating same thing again and again.

https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/fenix-6-series/193760/2-watches-fenix-6-sapphire-with-different-screen-contrast-and-ohr-sensors-both-have-different-look-and-box-on-back-shows-3-hours-gps-anyone-know-what-s-going-on

Stop arguing here. We are only trying to find out where is the problem. This thread is supposed to help people decide if their Fenix 6 got a good display or not. Garmin said it is normal but some people have got better or worse colours, contrast etc. So try to be helpful and dont repeta yourself all the time. As lot of people said you can return it if not happy.

We want to identify which Fenix 6 are affected by blueish backlight and which one are not, and if the situation is going to change in near future. It looks like some of these blueish displays are better, some worse. I had two F6 with blueish blacks and still both looked different, as the contrast in one of them was better than in the other one.

Thank you

  • Mine was bluish, purplish and with 20%

  • This is a picture of my Fenix 6 Titanium,  I have just made with my phone a Samsung S9 Plus tonight with the back light at 20%.

For your information the 21 is white and :13 is orange !!
As you can see, the phone camera is "interpreting" the colours. Especially the white is now blue !!

Here is the display without the backlight on:

For having made a lot of OLED pictures this is something unique to the Garmin's display once pictured.
Here is a picture taken from a Samsung watch and it OLED display. The 15 was orange and the 50 white.

So the backlight is saturating my camera in blue like I have noticed many time when filming blue LED sunlights in circus and theaters. This is a blue my eyes don't see but which is enhanced by the phone camera.

Hi, I've been following this thread closely. The photos and feedback have been helpful to me.  I have the Fenix 6 Titanium Sapphire.  I'm on my second one. Both my first and my current have had perfect blacks/good contrast; however, I returned my first because my whites were very pink/purplish.  With my current watch, there still a slight purplish tint to the whites, which is mostly noticeable in daylight.  Has anyone else experienced this? Are your whites true whites? Or do you have a tinted white?  My phone camera balances out the white to make it look better in photos than to my eye, which is why I'm asking. Some of the photos here show perfect whites but wondered if they are actually that way to the human eye. Thanks

  • My 6X Sapphire when not back-lighted had very good colors. The issue occurred when back-light was on.

  • Another try with the same camera but this time I use the Pro mode so I can make a screen capture of the settings.

Also I have taken the first pictures in front of my computer screen...
    No more blue.

And without the computer screen in the background....  Back to the blues.

So this is my Garmin 6 Titanium at 20%...

  • The fact that the colors cannot be displayed is only visible in the photo and not in real life?

  • See my last post with the pro mode pictures.
Camera can be saturated by blue.
Let say Blue is a very sensitive matter with new camera on phone or P2 cam fro TV.
My white are white in the sunshine, in the nake eye and with the backlight on.
My last pictures reflect what I see: black is black and white is white.

  • And the orange is orange right? Because in the photo it look washed out

  • The orange looks orange, again camera are not high fidelity.
On my previous pictures the orange look like pink !!
The best colors come from OLED screen. Fenix are not OLED but retro lighted display.
