{NOOB question} what is the different between apps, widget, and data field?

Hi all Sr. member,

May I know what is the different between apps, widget and data field?

is it apps = widget? if not how to accecss it from watch?

and what is data field? what is the purpose of data field and how to access it from watch?

Apps is most commonly used for recording activities (press start and select App). There are apps for other purposes such as viewing the map, play music etc.

Apps is most commonly used for recording activities (press start and select App). There are apps for other purposes such as viewing the map, play music etc.

Widget is used to briefly give you info about something (weather, altitude, today's summary, air pressure...) from the watch mode you access them by pressing up/down.

Data field is used within an app to show you info, examples are pace, elapsed distance, time, altitude...

Watch face is the GUI (look and feel) in watch mode when you just use it as a watch.

You go into settings by pressing the Up button, scroll down to Activities & Apps and press Select (Start), select the App you want to configure.
Choose App Settings -> Data Screens and select which screen to edit, select it and choose the field. Installed Data fields will be found under ConnectIQ Fields. Unfortunately you can only have two custom fields per activity and I know there was a bug that forced you to use one of the first 5 (if I remember correctly) fields for custom fields. Perhaps this is fixed with later FW's.
