Fenix 6X Titanium + SAPPHIRE (when can we expect it?)

Why hasen´t Garmin released this version of the Fenix 6X yet?

One thing is that the titanium arguably looks better, but if you gonna buy a watch for 1000$ you want to give it protection damn it! Must be a marketing-strategy from Garmin fearing the 6X Titanium+Sapphire would consume most of their other Fenix 6X versions (maybe the 6-Pro versions as well)?

But if I am missing something: Have Garmin revealed any news of the 6X T+S version? Have seen some mention december, but that is only far fetched speculation in my book.

I don't believe it can be a production issue since you can create one for the 47mm, so sell a more expensive 51mm unit until you can get the DX plus screen out.

It would seem to be much more efficient to create a sapphire titanium 6x that would sell very well... until one with a DX+ screen is viable for production.

I was a buyer in the technology industry for cell phones, so I understand the production process.  I would buy 50,000 units of a particular phone knowing I would phase it out in 6 months to bring on the next version, and at the same time  a 250000 unit order to get the production commitment needed for the manufacturer to produce the parts needed. It's a multi-stage, multi-level process, but a Sapphire titanium 6X is low-hanging fruit that will command a premium price until they can work out a deal on the DX+screens.

    ?

  • Do you happen to know what is the hold-up with the DX+ screens?

  • You can't seriously expect an answer to this.

Garmin's product line decisions are trade secrets. Disclosing their plans before a product hits the street puts them at a competitive disadvantage.

As for a hypothetical 6X Ti:

The 6X Solar Pro (with grey plastic lugs, raw titanium bezel, and vented titanium band) is distinct, to differentiate it from the non-Solar version.

I wouldn't expect Garmin to ever release a non-Solar variant that looked the same - it would reduce the perceived value of their flagship model.

If you want that look, plus sapphire and bare titanium, and don't want to pay for solar, you buy the 47mm Fenix 6 Sapphire Titanium. (a damn fine looking and very capable watch in its own right - and available without the titanium band)

  • Exactly my thinking. And I'm a good example of a person going that way - I wanted 6X Sapphire Titanium non-solar so decided to go one size down.

I don't expect an answer from Garmin. And I agree with part of your thoughts around protecting release plans. The question would be, why offer a non - DX plus screen on the solar when it was been available for 18 months. Why only DX GG on a flagship phone unless there's an issue with light transfer on the DX plus lens because of lens coatings? Or, they can't get the deal they need on the production for the plus lens at that size because of tooling or something else related to the solar function. It's all speculation at best, so yes Garmin is going to protect their marketing plans. With that said, almost all of us in my industry would allow certain leaks out to stimulate market interest, which I'm not seen for the ti Sapphire 6X. So either it's very tight-lipped for a reason or it ain't going to happen and we'll have to size down to a 47 mm to get Sapphire and titanium. Just makes me wait longer on a Suunto that will compete at features to price.

One of the seven immutable laws of marketing is that your first to market. Garmin has done a good job of that for the most part...

I don't know who competitively is in the same league at $1,000 plus price point.

Those like me that want a larger screen for older eyes, are willing to pay more to get more. I am personally waiting which might be forever, because I know I scratch GG but my Sapphire watches hold up quite well. I love the look of titanium and saving a few grams of weight as well which isn't really a big deal overall but nice feature benefit.

With all of that written, and many of their other products , they end up offering different variations as competitors that supply add-ons like bands come in behind them and steal revenue they could have made on the front end offering what people have asked for.

When I bought phones I knew I had a market corner at a national level on some phones but on others I knew that the competitor would release something similar and create drag on sell through.

By the way, apologies for grammatics , typing fast. I'm retired from the tech industry so now just hunt and hike and fortunate enough to maintain some level of mental capacity of my former career experiences.

  • I bought the Fenix 6X Sapphire a couple weeks ago.
Don´t regret it. I don´t notice the weight of the watch so the 12g lighter-titanium version is not important too me anymore. But I like the silver look of the titanium. But the shiny dark-gray look is also nice. Especially with the leather band.

You got the black with DLC (Diamond Like Coating) and leather band?

That's probably going to be my choice unless Garmin says they will release a titanium version in the 6X or GG with DX.

    What color is the leather?

  • That is correct.
It looks like the pictures. A bit stiff in the beginning ut it is starting to soften up.
