bluetooth is draining battery really fast

If I have bluetooth connection to the phone enabled, the battery drains at about 2% per hour. When turning off the bluetooth connection to the phone the battery drains at around 0.2% per hour.

Garmin Fenix6s sapphire, software up tp date (4.1). Does anyone else have the same problem? if yes, is there a way to fix it?

  • I've heard this is a problem related to certain recent phone OS updates.

My kid has a FitBit that is paired with my phone, and the FitBit app has an announcement in it that says I may need to disable always-on BT if the fitbit's battery is draining excessively, and pointing out recent phone OS updates as the reason for it.

I haven't noticed any excessive battery drain with my F6 (or my kid's fitbit, for that matter), but maybe my phone's OS (android 10) isn't one of the affected phone OS's. What phone (and OS) are you using?

  • Thank you for getting back to me.

I had the problem with the watch with iOS 12 and 13, so I don't think that is the issue.

Garmin support tells me that it is definitely the watch and that others have the same issue and that they think it's a software issue. They want me to wait for the next software update before sending in the watch. We'll see if a software update will solve the issue.

  • hi, how to check what is the usage of battery?

  • Hi, you can find some app on connect IQ, just type battery on the search bar

  • Is your music app still running, you can check your widget. I've noticed and informed garmin of this bug, it drains the battery

Same battery discharging with my 6s sapphire. But I´m not sure if it´s an Bluetooth issue.

    Summary:

    • battery drainage worked well with SW3.0 (about 8-9 days)
    • after updating to SW4.1 and shortly later to sensor hub 2.5 the drainage of the battery increased nearly to double (4,5-5 days)
    • update to SW4.2 (16.10.) doesn´t have any improvement to the drainage.

So from my point of view I think it´s an SW issue (of the sensor).

Additional problem since updates (maps and SW):

    • After updating the maps, the watch doesn´t show the a running route on the maps. This worked before map updating.
    • VO2 do not further update the actual status (since 03.10. no update visible)
    • intensity minutes don´t work
