try to say loud "ok garmin stop activity"
just kiddin' you can't :-D
Found this so annoying today. Just upgraded from a 235 to 945. I was doing a virtual 5k so set up a simple 5k workout. Ran like hell got a pb but the watch didn't stop! So showed me just over 20mins instead…
Would it be possible to add the feature back in to the software? It is a very handy feature to use. I work out with at least a dozen people who use Garmin watches and custom workouts. Most of us own either…

Sorry but there is no way to do that. I think something like that would probably cause more problems then it would solve since there would be the potential for it to end the workout by mistake before someone wanted it to. Better to record extra data that can be trimmed off later then to not have the full workout captured.
If you do Garmin’s coach workouts, they are ending automatically but if you aren’t at home then you can continue recording the activity
Thank you for your answer, that was the case for Fenix 5 and my old FR235
Garmin inverse it in the new software editions
Does the Fenix work differently than the 945 for workouts? I haven't done a structured workout with my new Fenix yet, but I did them all the time with my 945 and when the workout was complete it told you so on screen and it was done, stopped. You could resume it if you wanted to go further to finish your route but if you didn't hit resume it just ended without you needing to stop it manually.
Maybe that's what I mean then. The ones I did were Garmin Coach workouts and they all end automatically.
Thank you lindajm22, I am talking about custom workouts that you create with (+) button

Most of us own either a Fenix 5 or Fenix 6 watch. We would request Garmin add back the feature where a custom created workout auto stop once a metric has been achieved.
Well sadly most of it can't be trimmend, like strength, yoga and many others.
I was intrigued by this thread, as I had got so used to activities simply continuing, after structured workouts had finished, on the Fenix line, that I couldn't recall it being any other way. So I dragged my Fenix 3 and Fenix 5 out to check. The Fenix 5 does continue to record the activity after a workout completes, but the Fenix 3 stops/pauses the activity at the end of a workout (so you'd have to physically select the Resume option to continue the activity). I'm not sure when the change was made to the Fenix line to be like this, but it was certainly years rather than months ago. To be honest, I fall in to the camp that would prefer the activity to continue after a workout completes, as most of my workouts are done as part of a longer activity and I wouldn't want a break (however short) in recording or, worse still, forget to press the button to resume recording the activity.
