Left side buttons have gone mushy - disappointed

Hi,

Bit disappointed.  After 3 weeks, the left side buttons on my Fenix 6 Sapphire have gone 'mushy'.

All the buttons started off firm and clicky.  Now, and in particular the 'Down' button, have gone very squishy with a lot of free play before there is any click.  They therefore feel very unresponsive now.

I'll be taking it back to the store for a refund, and have ordered a replacement for now to compare / contrast.

Any idea what could have caused this to suddenly happen during one evening / overnight?

  • Could you have possibly used a lotion or body oil that could have seeped into the buttons?  Even a moisturizing hand wash?   It might clear itself up if you said the watch in warm dish soap water for an Hour.  that's the old trick with the Fenix F3 to get the Altimeter sensor working again  :)

  • Same here, on my third week into the 6s Pro. All buttons were perfect, crisp and sharp - now the start/ stop button has gone super-mushy, sometimes I have to press super-hard to start an activity, sometimes it gets stuck. Kind of disappointed, this production quality shouldnt happen on a 700€ watch IMHO.

I had mushy buttons on the left side of the watch from the beginning. Will get my replacement end of the week. Let you know how it goes.

It's likely that you've got some grease or oil in there. Soak in warm soapy water for 30 minutes, click the buttons a few times and then repeat. It'll break down the debris and you'll have your clicky buttons back again.

No need to send it back for such a simple fix.

  • I returned mine and just got my replacement 6S Sapphire today and all the buttons are perfect.

My first Fenix 6 Solar left side buttons where mushy, I just got a replacement and they feel much better.

  • Are you sure soapy water with clicking the buttons will help? Doesn´t this destroy the complete watch?

  • I learned to live with it, my right start/stop & back buttons are mushy from the beginning, after I exchanged it like 4 times, they all have different buttons issue some better than others, but none of them are perfect. I bought a extended replacement warranty with it just incase. I hope Garmin will address this issue with the new batch or next Fenix release...

  • Sadly, the replacement I have is also 'mushy', just in different ways.  Again, it is the left side that is poor, with the buttons having two stages of 'click'.  The buttons on the right are nice and firm, as I would expect for the price point.

This, combined with the lottery on screens (I got a good 'black' screen this time, whereas the original watch had the purple tint), means I'm not happy to keep RMAing forever in the hope that one day I get a device that is actually built right.

So, what next? I've ordered a 945.  This also had button issues in its life, but Garmin have now officially commented to say 'changes have been made' in the latest revision, so perhaps this is the way to get the same functionality but with better QC... we will see...

Got my replacement and now I am down to one mushy button. This time on the right side. I will get used to it and when it gets worse I will get it replaced; but for now I am happy.
