How to turn off/disable Garmin Pay?

So as Garmin Pay is close to useless in the UK as there are virtually no banks using it, how do I disable it? I was just playing about on the app and once I selected it, it spent ages activating it. This seems to affect the OHRM and suggests that it will use more battery especially has I use a chest strap for activities. I can put it in jacket mode but seriously there should be a way to deactivate it. If there is, I can't find it.

  • What do you mean with disabling? If you don't have any cards in it and don't activate it and enter a pin I think it is as disabled as it can be,

  • Then why does the OHRM not turn off during an activity when using the chest strap? It's the only explanation I've seen as to what it's doing as the OHRM is used to verify your watch hasn't come off your wrist

  • Works flawlessly with a Revolut account. I've been using it for over 3 months now, never fails. Just need to make sure you set up a free mastercard virtual card to use with GPay.

  • I think this is a bug and is not related to Gpay. Fenix 5 plus never worked this way. I mean, sure, the HR might be used to check the watch is still on your wrist since you last entered your wallet PIN. But it makes no sense keeping the OHR just for this purpose... If the OHR stops blinking for any reason (watch removed or activity started with chest strap) simply request the PIN when Gpay is activated, end of story... Just my opinion though.

  • I doubt this is anything to do with Garmin Pay. I have used Garmin Pay on both my fenix 5+ and fenix 6 and in no cases does the OHR stay on when I'm using a chest strap. In fact, this can be a bit of an annoyance when using Garmin Pay since when using a chest strap you have to enter the pin every time you use Garmin Pay. I had this only a week ago with my f6. Buy coffee after parkrun, enter pin. Pay for car park when leaving, enter pin.

I guess you have some other problem causing the OHR to stay on when using a strap. Did you verify you are connected to the strap and reading HR from there? Could the battery in the strap be flat? (sorry if you already did this). Have you powered the watch off and on again as this can sometimes clear strange states.

p.s. I know many people in the UK using Garmin Pay, Santander is pretty common, I use Dansk and I know several who have Starling for this. It's pretty easy to setup an account even if it's just for Garmin Pay.

  • Yeah it's definitely connected, I get the running dynamics etc so it's not reading the heart rate from the wrist. I'll reboot and see what happens on the run tomorrow. Thanks

I found the same -- couldn't figure out how to disable it so just did a factory reset of my forerunner 945 to make sure it wasn't enabled
