just bought a Fenix 6? Disable automatic updates and enjoy

This is just a rant, but felt like saying it, I bought a Fenix 6 Pro last week and I’m enjoying it quite a bit, having previously owned the F2, F3, F3HR, F5 and F5+ I became accustomed to the fact that Garmin tends break functionality with each update and takes way to long to fix them (if at all), the F5+ worked like a charm when I first bought it and then the music experience got really bad, covers never showed up again, constant drops with the headphones audio, the new music UI was worst (although I got used to it).

I decided to make my life easier this time and not worry about updates, the watches tend to work perfectly when first bought so why update? I know it shouldn’t be like this (specially for the high price) and I probably should go and buy from a company that knows how to update without brake like Apple, but I just can’t, I love my fenix watch and can’t stand the cheap look of that tiny black rectangle called Apple Watch. So I made y peace with it and disabled updates, just my opinion.

No. The Garmin Connect app (on your phone) won't push a firmware update to your watch. Once you disable automatic updates on your watch, you do not want to connect to Garmin EXPRESS on your computer. Express will push the update to your watch whether you want it or not.

Thanks, you are right... I connected to Garmin Connect and nothing happened. I synced normally my data and no harm made

yes, this gets confusing when not looking at the dirty details. The mobile app. You are safe. The PC app, you are screwed

I thought that when you pług it in to your PC and open Garmin Express it will not update automatically. Is it not showing you available updates first, then you have to choose to install it or not to, and accept all terms and conditions? This is how I remember it anyway, I may be wrong.

That's certainly the case on the Mac GE. The watch will sync; the option is there to install updates selectively or all at once.

It's easy to be 'scared' by those with a jaundiced view of these watches - why on earth they keep them if they detest them so much I don't know - but I believe they represent the view of a vocal minority. I feel that the less vocal few who dare to post how well their watches work, how few problems they have, and attempt to help those who struggle, better represent the views of the quieter majority.

As usual, YMMV. There are genuine problems of course.

The nerd in me wants the latest Beta or the latest public release. I now have reached a compromise I have a 6X pro solar that I install all the Beta's on, but my Descent is going to stay with software 4.1 no chance of updating to 8! You don't realise quite how hard it is for me to refuse an update!!
