Charger port dust plug protector

But does it need that protection? In all my F5 years without it its just fine..

No, you dont have to, thats why I said some people may be interested. Garmin suggests to make sure charging port is clean and dry before connecting it to charger/usb so it wont corrode. And that silicon does his job well. 

I started using these plugs on my F6X recently, I like them. Indeed, they sit flush, so they're hard to get out by hand, but a thumbtack or paperclip or something makes it pretty easy.

So far, seems to be keeping water and gunk out. I'm not as worried about the water as I am about the gunk. Sweat, salt, bug spray, and whatever else, I'm worried will eventually corrode the terminals and make it hard to get a good connection. Better safe than sorry.

I never used one on my Vivoactive 3 (that I wore daily for a year), primarily because I didn't know these things existed until a couple weeks ago. I didn't have any problems as a result, but who knows whether that would've been true still after a few more years.

At any rate, these things cost pennies apiece, so I'm of the opinion that you might as well use them, it can't hurt anything.

I use them and have done since the 5X. 

Dust is easy to clean, but this also keep sweat out. Prevents corrosion of the contacts. 

Mine have a tiny lip on them making them very easy to remove. 

Interesting. I'd be concerned that it'd keep the humidity in unless theres a perfect seal.

Every time I am taking pług out, the port is dry. I swim in my Vivoactive 3 and it is dry after an hour in water.

Polar removed all protectors from V800 when they got them for repair (all kind of repairs) cause the protector prevented the connectors to dry if they got wet. So I personally think it is better to keep them unprotected rather than having them moist.

Yes, but if you have read my posts you would know that it is completely dry and moist free. And I am not saying you must have one. I always have it on while running and hiking
