Continuous glucose monitoring

The Fenix 6 is such an all measuring device, the only thing missing now is continuous glucose monitoring. I think it would be useful to know what your blood sugar levels are doing during exercise and help guide nutrition. The cheapest would be the Abbott sensor, $80-90 for 2 weeks, down side is it doesn't broadcast to your phone or , one day, the watch. Would have to wave the watch over it to dpwnload the glucose readings, much like the swim HR monitor. Other companies have much more expensive devices that broadcast continuously to your phone. I think it has to happen soon.

    1. bump for this topic, any news?
  • Technical limitations would suggest that this is not going to happen anytime soon.

  • any news?

Based on all the comments and discussions from the time the OP posted this thread over a year ago until we reach yours, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say no.

  • Hi, there are now multiple Garmin Connect widgets (https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/search?q=Nightscout&device=&deviceLimit=&appType=&sort=&start=0&count=30) that allow for this.

You need an Abbott Sensor (with a Transmitter like the Miao Maio) or Dexcom sensor and transmitter. The transmitter then sends your reading to an app on your phone ( I use Spike for IOS) . The app will then send the reading directly to your Garmin watch via an internal server address or through a Nightscout site.

This will help with the setup process medium.com/.../how-to-view-cgm-data-on-a-garmin-watch-or-bike-computer-6846b06801e2

    Kind Regards,

    Rich.

  • And now. Apple and Samsung are releasing Blood Glucose monitoring in their watches Muscle

  • How many of Garmin customers with diabetes will move onto Apple Watch Series 7 or Samsung Watch4 that provide pain-free continuous glucose  monitoring via laser sensor? I will be for of those one.

if Garmin does not move quickly into continuous glucouse monitoring how many more customers will they loss?

In 2015 it was estimated: One in 11 adults had diabetes and 12 per cent of global health expenditure is spent on diabetes (USD$673 billion). What are the figures now?

  • They even cant add E-bike activity in fenix 6 series let alone blood glucose. But i agree this is key inovation. And further  Samsung will have body composition monitor - body fat, muscle mass and water in body...

  • Samsung will have body composition monitor - body fat, muscle mass and water in body...

Samsung may well have it but I can guarantee it will be useless.

Even so-called body mass detection scales that send electrical pulses through your feet are basically random number generators - they get weight right, that's about it.

I think folks really need to move away from a 'metrics for the sake of it' mindset, and think about whether they are genuinely accurate, and therefore useful. So many metrics are metrics for the sake of them, even now.

If people genuinely have health issues that need monitoring there are already medically certified tools available to monitor diabetes foe example- Garmin is not and should never be considered a medical device.

  • I partly agree. But this things are selling points, so if you dont have any inovations and so on you are left behind. And i know at first this metrics will be useless like it is Puls oximeter now, but in time can be improved and trustworthy and in big help to some people.

  • But this things are selling points,

If you sell something that doesn't work, and as you say yourself, will be useless, doesn't that make it something of a scam?

Sorry, but if folks need this monitoring for medical purposes, they shouldn't be hoodwinked into buying, due to a box ticking exercise. I guess we won't agree on this.

I don't think we as Garmin users need to worry about 'selling points' unless we are Garmin shareholders.
