Fenix 6 button issue resolved too?

I previously owned 3 different Forerunner 945s. All of them had button issues - sticking/inconsistent double clicking etc.

I ended up returning for a refund for this reason and purchased a Fenix 6 instead. Surprise surprise, button are similar to the the 945. Maybe not quite as bad, but certainly not good. Double click (sometimes) on up and start. Single click on the others. I ended up returning for refund. Sure I’m picky, but these are expensive watches so I feel it’s reasonable to expect consistent build quality and feel.

I read on the 945 forum that Garmin has now confirmed the button issues have been “resolved” on 945s based on customer feedback. I presume this means a change in the production process for new watches.

Can I expect this change at some stage for the Fenix 6? I rather wait as it’s a little painful going though the RMA process each time.

It would be great if someone from Garmin can provide an update regarding the Fenix 6 buttons and if we can expect improved buttons at some stage?

  • Not even sure if they are aware of a problem.  So no official response from Garmin. I believe from other post that one person might have sent the watch into Garmin for button problems and is awaiting a return.  My first one had a problem along with a few others but mine was not a double click issue.  The start/stop button had two distinct stops.  Two occasions I thought I started an exercise but did not start because of the second push required.  I called Garmin support and described the problem but I believe they interpreted it as a click issue where I was told that all the buttons should click when it is engaged.  That is correct but the issue was the two stops.  I kept it for 8 days and sent it back due to that second press becoming more resistive.  Took more pressure to press and engage.  The second one I received works fine.  If you have read the forums the biggest issue now is the software mess from the last update.

  • I tried 5 different fenix 6 (a 6 and 4 6X) from day 1 to a few days before now and they all had button issues apart 1.

It's not the same problem as the 945 i also had, which was mostly a sticky problem. Here it's a double click problem that makes you feel you've clicked the button but in fact not, you have to push harder to really engage the button.

It seems that it affects mostly one side on the watch, maybe as suggested by someone because of the centering of the internal motherboard.

The 6X i saw without button issue had instead a screen issue. The screen was not properly centered.

Btw, all 6X i saw had backlight problem on the bottom (black zones), more or less pronouced but always there. Ok on the 6 i saw.

It seems complicated to get a perfect fenix 6 ...

  • I have this double-click issue too on 3 of the 5 buttons. Contacted Garmin and waiting for a response what to do.

  • I have it at one button. As it functions properly I'm not yet worried. If it fails at one point I just ask for a new watch which Garmin will honor without questions.

  • I've had quite a few Fenix watches starting with the 3.  I returned many of them for button issues.  But the F6x sapphire I have now has the best buttons of any of them.  I guess I just got lucky this time.  Garmin seems to have trouble producing consistent buttons.

  • I just returned my fenix 6 pro and got a new one back and its the same issues with the button again

  • I have a new fenix6 for saphire. All buttons have resistance. I take it as an advantage over accidentally squeezing the jacket, gloves, bracelet in my sleep. There's probably some solid spring. I gave $ 1,072. So I wouldn't even think that something wasn't working or was working badly. I am satisfied.

  • I've tried three Fenix 6 watches so far, 2x F6Pro Solar & 1x F6X Pro.  Both of the Fenix 6 Pro Solar watches have button issues.  When you depress the button you get one click.  However, when you release the button there is an intermediate stop and click followed by a final click when it returns to the full out position.  Garmin confirmed over email and on a call that there should only be two total clicks, not three.  They were happy to exchange the first watch for a second.  However, now that the second F6Pro Solar is having the same issue they are now changing their story and saying my watch is operating like normal and they won't exchange it again.  Of note, the second Fenix 6 Pro Solar watch has four of the five buttons functioning with the "three click" issue.  Garmin needs to fix this issue.  There is no good reason a +$1,000 watch should have button issues.

The F6X Pro buttons are amazing and built like a tank.  However, the watch was too big and heavy to use as a daily wearable.

  • I landed here for the same reason. My 2 month old Fenix 6 Sapphire's left buttons' feel is weak, no click almost. The two on the right are just fine, sound click.
