Stryd vs Run Dynamics Pod vs don’t bother

What are your thoughts? Thanks for your time :)

Darre80 is correct. Stryd does not give stats for the left and right foot.  It displays power, cadence (counts every time the foot with the sensor on it strikes the ground), ground time (again, just the foot with the sensor), vertical oscillation, form power and leg spring stiffness in Garmin Connect.

  • Oops, sorry, you are correct.  I am getting L/R balance from my HRM-Run.

  • would love a stryd, but they are to pricey for what they private me.  Plus they are not waterproof. As a trail ultrarunner, I got out of my way to go into water. Stryd pods doesnt like that.   Also, it needs to run much much longer on battery than it does now.  I know some ultra runners carry multiple stryd, but thats even more $$ crazy.  Would like the accurate distance.  I dont care about pace on the trials, I care about RPE, which in some ways can be related to power I guess.

I have a RD pod, I got it because I wanted the L/R balance.  After a partial tear in my right plantars, I wanted to know when I was spending to much time on that foot. Sometimes I care about cadence and stride length, but usually only the L/R I care about.  Stryd wont give me that.

  • I never use RD pod but owned both stryd and runscribe plus pod. I got running dynamic data from my HRM-RUN.

I think stryd give much better consistent pace and distances than any other pod out there. The power is also a plus but I didn't pay much attention on that part. The new stryd that incorporated wind resistance might be useful when you want to pace yourself on the windy day.

I really like L/R RD data from HRM-RUN. It's quite valuable, if you want to improve your running form. Runscribe plus pod that I have gives you much more data about your running form, so while training I have all three of them collecting my data.

  • You can have power with rd pod also...

  • Sounds like to check/improve my form, the RD pod is going to give more important metrics than stryd then.
does anyone run with a backpack while wearing it? I often use a backpack and concerned that it’s going to knock on the pod and either be uncomfortable or spoil the data.

  • the RB pod (connected to back of shorts) has a very strong clip.  you would have to seriously get something caught under it, and tug up (essentially giving yourself a wedgie).     That said, I've only run with a hydration pack, it doesnt go low enough to be close to the RD pod.

Stryd.  Ran a marathon Saturday, Stryd measured it at 26.22 miles.  Ran Rocky 50 earlier this year, Stryd measured it at 50.3 miles. (there were a couple of off trail excursions near Far Side due to lack of porta potties at Damnation that added up a bit)
