Fenix 6 Pro Titanium Sapphire - Quality Control? Seems poor to me...

Just received a brand new, factory sealed, Fenix 6 Pro Titanium Sapphire from an online retailer and upon opening the box, there is a small edge chip on the bezel.

As the box is factory sealed, there is no doubt the watch was sent out like this. Furthermore, the finish on the rest of the bezel (the brushed finish) is below the standard of the previous F5+ Ti Sapphire I owned.

Option 1) Garmin have very poor quality control and this watch was packaged and sent out from the factory with a 'ding' in the bezel.

Option 2) Garmin are taking watches back, from people who buy them and return them, checking them over and sending them back out with a seal, representing them as 'new'.

Either way, it is very poor for a £800.00 watch to be received with damage when it is still factory sealed.

I'm leaning more and more toward the DC Rainmaker feeling that software bugs and poor quality control are more damaging to Garmin than any competitor. Although my Vivomove HR and Vivosport have been great, the premium end of the Garmin line has left a lot to be desired in terms of quality, customer support and reliability.

  • Garmin's only interested in the bottom line. A certain quota of returns is now thought of. And yes, I am very sure that Garmin retours will be repackaged and shipped.

Garmin is not a Rolex watch! What do you expect?

In the end all products come from the Far East and are packed by subcontractors by employees who earn 200 euros a month.

  • That explains EVERYTHING!

I wondered why R-O-L-E-X was, in fact, spelled G-A-R-M-I-N on this particular product!?

Silly me for expecting a product, that was purchased at any price, to arrive in a factory sealed box without damage to it.

Lol ask them why us...... BTW if you noticed it on arrival I guess you contacted the seller about this so I bet they will give no problem and return it back for a new one....

  • Yes, it is going back today.

Thus, after waiting for nearly a month for the seller to get a delivery from Garmin, the wait begins again.

I've heard of similar issues from other owners and thus I'd suggest there may be a QA issue at the production end.

As mentioned above, the quality of the finish seems a step backward over the F5+ Ti.

  • I never heard such nonsense. How do you conclude that Garmin reships damaged watches? Come on...

  • The watch, which is factory sealed, arrives with damage to the bezel.

There are various ways this could happen. As stated above, one option is that returned watches are being checked over by the manufacturer and when they pass a QA test are being resealed and sent out. If that QA test is poor, a watch with a mark could get sent back out.

What worries me more is that you find this an impossibility and "nonsense".

Have you ever returned an item to an online retailer (wrong size, not to your taste, etc)? Do you think they destroy that item or resell it?

If you want a faster replacement you might be able to get it by contacting Garmin support directly. Apparently they set aside some units to be used for warranty replacements so even if it is shown as backordered they may have replacements available.

While it sucks anything mass manufactured is going to have the possibility of a few defective units slipping through. Garmin in general is very good about warranty replacements so hopefully you'll have a new pristine watch in short order.

  • The way you present your case comes across (to me) that this is normal behavior for Garmin. I'm quite sure that's not the case, they could loose much more than they gain from such practices plus that could certainly lead to serious legal issues.  But human errors can be made, I'm not arguing that.

  • I cannot control how you perceive what you read but I never stated that I felt it was "normal behaviour for Garmin" to resell damaged watches.

What I did state was that, in my experience, of four Garmin Fenix 5, 5+ and 6 products is less than acceptable quality, poor customer service and product reliability.

I also stand by what I said, the two options above are the most likely ways I have received a damaged watch, which had the box seal intact.

As a customer of Garmin for over a decade, I feel comfortable in that assessment.

  • I have spoken with the retailer and if I need to wait, so be it. It is unfortunate but not the end of the world.

Until then I can wear my Vivosport on one wrist and my R-O-L-E-X on the other ;)

(for anyone who thinks I'm being serious, please see above)
