GPS still not good enough for hiking

I think that these are 2 different things. You complain about GPS accuracy, or auto pause? If your movement is slow (which can be normal at hiking), auto pause may have problems with recognising your start. In such case I would use pause and resume/ resume later manually.

The GPS accuracy is horrid to say the least.  On my run it is showing me running through the buildings off to the side.  My Apple Watch was much better.  

Have you configured the auto pause speed or did you use the set one? 

Mine works just fine, better than my F5 and F5xPlus.

Go in the used app>auto pause>custom

Why do you need to auto pause on a hike anyway? I only use it for cycling for stopping at lights. When I’m hiking I keep the GPS running unless I stop for food or a break, then I manually pause and select resume later.

1. "pause" - from my experience walk and hiking need at least 10 (good) steps to reenter the activity
2. GPS use
   • GPS, GPS+Glonass, GPS+Galileo
     • depends on what is above you based on your position on Earth, hour
     • I use for IOS GNSS View app (as IOS does not have a GPS-test for real measurements as Android) to see what is above me
     • 
   • with almost the same coverage, follow the colors on the above image, I prefer to use GPS+Galileo, and I'll explain why:
     • Galileo satellites have the highest orbit from all, Glonass the lovest, GPS in the middle

     • the high orbit gives:
       • more time on the sky, as it is moving relatively slower (you can use the time slider in GNSS View to see the differences)
       • a better line of sight and for longer time especially when near buildings, threes
     • Galileo radio signal has a different modulation than GPS and Galileo that use the same
       • in case of interferences, there is a better chance to obtain a decent decoded signal

I have a walking example compared with 5X+, almost the same path, near buildings. 6X looks better, no drunk syndrome. 

as well, the altitude measured by 6X is far more accurate than 5X+ (I have on both altimeter> Auto calibration>During activity = continous)  

1. 5X+ every time near to the building "push" the trace off, 6X not
2. 5X+ lost a little, by no means I went in that garden, on 6X that on the right back and forth  was on purpose, I was not decided where to go

enter Hike(Walk) >> hold UP >> Hike (walk) settings >> scroll down to >> Auto Pause >>> off / when stopped / Custom ---you can enter here the speed ....

Same here. I used auto-pause on my first hike with my 6X, but turned it off after that. It's not hard to manually pause the activity when I'm taking a break, and it's more accurate/reliable than letting the Fenix decide when to pause/unpause.
