Fenix 6X vs 530/830

Hello,

I am looking for cyclists who also got a 530/830. I would like those people to give a subjective statement if they think the 6x could replace their 530 or even 830!?

(searched the whole internet for that kind of comparison :D)

Initial cons for previous models were:

- maps and its details (this is fixable by download)

- screen-size (now with 1.4" competitive to the 530 I would guess)

What else did I miss?

thanks for helping!

  • Hi,

I think that I can give you my point of view, because I am using EDGE 830 since June.

If you are looking for something usefull for cycling, especially MTB this it the only choise.

There is no comparision to F6X (I am using it for a week) for cycling activities.

Fenix for me is a multi sport device (including also cycling) but with EDGE you will get very usefull hardware for cycling like: holder or pilot which helps a lot during bike operating or navigation.

Of course you will not be able store a music there or pay by it but this is for me not a purpose for a bike riding.

From the other side you can also tie your watch to the bar and operate it but this is for me like using in the car phone with laud speaker instead of car's internal speaking system...

In case of maps, on the EDGE is better visible due to bigger display, see the picture:

  • And one more thing I have forgotten, EDGE 830 has a touch screen which is much more convenient for scrolling and zooming while navigating.

But of course this only my subjective opinion and the final choice is yours.

    Kind Regards

    Paul

  • Some points to add:

    Pro Edge:

You can use remote controls on edge devices

Control it using DI2 shifters without moving your hands from the bar.

    Mtb metrics with jump indicator

Mount works without putting too much force on the pulse sensor

    Faster map refresh

    Pro Fenix 6:

    Visualisation of popularity routing

newer firmware running connect iq 3.1

  • Edge 830 features over the fenix 6

    • Course-points (not the same as waypoints) and a cue-sheet (distance to each course point)
    • Search and navigation to an address
    • Bigger screen
    • More mounting options on the handlebar
    • Mtb features (trailforks integration, mtb dynamics)
    • The Edge remote

missing on the edge that the fenix 6 has

    • Visualization of popularity routing data on map
  • I use both a 6x pro and an edge 530. The edge is better for cycling as I can read it without taking my hand off the handlebars and it’s quicker to glance down than look at my wrist.

The bigger screen when cycling gets me my data easier. And I prefer the fact that it can use more than just two CIQ fields that the Fenix is frustratingly restricted to.

Having and using both works well for me.
