No default power mode setting for Activities.

Sorry if this was covered a search didn’t turn up an answer.

I defined a custom power power mode and I want it to be the default for a customized activity. I have created the activity in the main menu but don’t seem to see the Power Mode setting in any of the menus.

It looks like every activity starts in Normal Power Mode and the only way to change the Power Mode is in the Options menu when starting an activity.

Is this correct or am I missing a configuration meme somewhere in the Activity definition menu?

Ahh.

3.0 firmware just appeared my watch and the default power setting is now available in the Activities.

Problem solved.

Strange. I am on 19.20, and although the default power mode is available in the settings of Activities, I still cannot change it to the custom power mode I created. I can change it to Ultratrack or Jacket, but not to the custom ones.

Did you mean that when you had fw 3.0 you could indeed change the default power mode of an activity to the custom power mode you created and defined?

I am running 19.20, and just created a new custom power mode, and applied it to an activity without any problems.

Thx for the additional confirmation. As I wrote it in the other thread (https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/fenix-6-series/281139/whr-switch-on-and-off-battery-optimization-approach/1350214#1350214) I tweaked Jacket mode as a turnaround.

So I dont want to apply a full/hard reset just for make more tests. But now it seems that something must have been corrupted in the filesystem of my watch.

But having heard about your success I made more tests and now I can change the default power mode of an activity to a freshly created custom one called “C”, while I still cannot change it to the other one “WHR active”.

Hmmm, maybe the names….?

Ha, I called my experiment "C" as well.

Although I did just try "WHR Active" as well, and that worked.

Anyway, maybe it is a pretty complicated bug where more than one factor is needed, like name characters + some combination of sub-settings of the custom mode + name of the activities etc.

Having checked some threads here in Garmin forums like this https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/fenix-6-series/211764/bug-auto-enable-custom-low-power-mode-during-activity and some complaints on reddit by now I am quite sure there is something smelling.

I am just documenting it here in order to help the unlucky fellow users with this message in a bottle: “do not give up, after some trial and error you will be able to set a custom power mode as a default mode” :-)

EDIT: and now “WHR active” also works with the same settings as I tried yesterday, when it didnt work.

My custom power mode not only is not saved for an activity, but times out after a certain time during activity and resets itself to normal. Is this supposed to work so?

I still have this bug in 2023
