Peculiar problem with wrist Optical Heart Rate sensor

I just purchased a new Fenix 6 watch yesterday,

and i am facing an issue with heart rate sensor, it is showing - - most of the time,

when i place it correctly on the wrist or in my palm, it just shows the heart rate for few secs and goes back to - - .

only it worked, when i was running outside, 5k, after few mins, it alerted that gps is connected and the heart rate started working fine for the full run about 30 minutes. it recorded the activity most likely right.

after i stopped and ended the activity, it is going back to - - .

indoor activities and resting heart rate, it doesnt not show as well. only for few seconds. i hope it is the issue with garmin software, which garmin will provide a fix or update. which heart rate needs to have the option to be switched on full time, instead of automatic, and pulse ox and v02 max apps might be messing with the HR use.

i want to know if anyone is facing the similar problem

or it is the issue with the heart rate sensor, for which i will have to check with support.

Update: the Sensor is somehow switching off, when it is not detecting the rate, it goes to - - .

eg. if i keep it on my wrist, it checks for like 2 seconds and shows the HR like 72 and goes back to - -. if i keep it on my finger, it works till i take my finger off, if i move the finger and puts it back, it is - - again, i have to rub it once so the sensor blinks with the green light, and starts taking again, dunno what is issue with this one.

There needs to be option to switch it on fully, instead of automatic.

In short: This is supposed to be a firmware issue and a proposed fix is already out there (currently as beta version for most devices). However it has been reported that exchanging the device fixed the issue for some users. I personally have issued an RMA and am currently waiting for a replacement.

Hi Thank you for you reply, mine is the base model - Fenix 6

the threads are for the other models, i have got a mail from Garmin asking me to try one of the fixes,

i followed the steps and put it in my watch, but it is not showing any update option, just nothing. sensor hub version is still 2.10.

as you said, it is a firmware issue and i will wait for the final proposed fix, if no luck, have to replace it.

it was really unexpected from the company :|
