I've completed two runs using the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro and both activities show zero running cadence. Do I need additional hardware (Stryd, Footpod, etc.) in order to see my cadence for running? Or is it built in but needs to be enabled?

A stryd, or a Garmin Running Dynamics, or one of the HRM-Tri or HRM-Run belts is needed for that.
You should get cadence without anything, im running always with my HR strap but i just check my ladys account and shes running without and gets cadence.
Are you moving/swinging your arm/wrist while running?
Hmmm where did my name go? hehehehe
They’re right - cadence is built in. I’ve had three Garmin watches before my 6 Pro - always had cadence. I’d make sure activity tracking, etc settings are all on. Of course as suggested - that your moving your arms. If all’s good - reach out to support.
I'm definitely swinging my arms. I had a 945 and it detailed SPM after my runs, however it's no bueno on my Fenix 6 Pro. I'll reach out to Garmin support.
Did you ever get an answer. i have the same issue.
Cadence without a strap with running dynamics relies on the watch's accelerometer to detect foot strike/arm movement. If neither are sufficient to trigger a response then cadence will not be well reported. Even then, cadence from the watch alone is unlikely to reliable enough. That's partly why Garmin sell the run pod as a means to provide more reliable data.
Do you run on a treadmill and hold onto the handles? The watch needs to detect your arm swinging to give cadence.
Thanks for the quick reply. I don't even see cadence on the watch as a field though. Am I just missing it? Fenix 6X
If you go to the activity settings (pick an activity and then press up), then data screens, then data fields, you can scroll through a list of categories. Cadence is one of these.
