Garmin Fenix 6 - Watchface (step counter and heart rate has a big lag)

Hello everybody, yesterday I just got my new Garmin Fenix 6 Sapphire and have some issue with it. Really dont want to return this one but few things still doesnt work correctly. At this thread I would like to ask about heart rate and step counter. I got this information at my watch face but refreshing those information are very laggy. I mean, it takes 30-60s to refresh this information what is strange and very disappointing. (I saw a tread about heart rate) but dont see anything about step counter. Does anyone have same problem what me?

:)

I would check the System settings to ensure you aren't missing the 3.0 Software Update. This enabled some new data points on the watch faces and may have helped with this issue.

Unfortunately I made update yesterday. Actually I use 3.0 software version.

Same issue here and I was actually going to make a post about it until I saw yours.

I thought it might be related to the other sensor issues people are having.

For everyone else: is step count instant for you, or delayed?

  • The step counter updates once per minute. My Instinct did that so I expect this is by design. The heart rate, however, seems like it might be a bug as the Instinct updated once per second. I would assume the Fenix would do the same.

Seems like it updates at 1hz when you first get to the watch face and then somewhat less after that. can you verify if this is by design.

To replicate while wearing the watch

    1. Navigate away from the watch face to the widget loop

    2. navigate back to the watch face

    3. observe the HR updating at 1hz

    4. Observe it quickly go into a "low power" mode it updates more like 1x per minute

If this is by design, it should probably be configurable. Additionally it should be mentioned in the change log.

    Thanks!

The heart rate information is always being watched but the data fields take turns refreshing.  We looked into this deeply when someone put heart rate as all four data fields displaying on their watch face and noticed it was displaying different information.  It turned out to be was because each field would take turns displaying information (Top field updates, waits 15 seconds, right field updates, waits 15 seconds...).  If you are really needing to see what your heart rate at that second is, go view the Heart Rate widget which is designed to show just that.

To best see this and understand this, setup your watch face with the same data field for each option and watch the second hand tick as the fields update.  I honestly just did that here to explain this to someone else before 'trying' to find the best way to type up a reply.
