Start/stop button behaviour

On my recently purchased fenix 6pro the start/stop button has different feedback than the other buttons. It can be pressed down with 2 stops where the first one does not initiate anything. For pressing it further down one needs to apply more force than for pressing the other buttons, and it has a more audible clicking sound. Anyone else has the same issue. Or is this a feature to avoid accidentally pressing this most important button.

I also tested on another fenix 6 in a shop which showed similar 'problems' although I needed less force to press the button full down. But the 2 positions were clearly feelable.

Coming from a fenix 5x and before that a 3 I never had any issues with the buttons. They all provided the same feedback.

Any comments welcome.

  • Same here, feels like a camera shutter button and clicks on full press, thought this was normal.

  • i just pressed all my fenix 6 buttons now. all 5 buttons have crisp, clear push feeling, definitely 1 firm click, regardless of the pushing power. What you are experiencing i had on 645music and on edge 530 (omg, edge 530) :(( felt like all the buttons had 2 different levels of pressing/click. My fenix 6 is totally perfect, thank God.

  • Interesting, I have the same issue but with BACK/LAP button

  • Same problem with my backlight button.  I can easily press the button to get it to go the first stop, then I need to push it harder to get the click and the backlight turns on.  All other buttons require a fairly firm push before they move.

Just checked all the buttons on my 6X Sapphire and none of them are behaving like that.

I have the same issue, but really significant on my "back/lap" button. Which is really painful in case of Multisport activities. I have tried and i could really miss a transition step or a pause in swimming activity... Not really good on a 800€ watch!!!

  • I went ahead and ordered another F6 Pro from Amazon and the doublestop issue I have with the backlight and start/stop button is gone.  Now there is just a slight bit of travel before it engages the first stop which is how all the other buttons feel as well. So overall, the buttons all feel much more consistent.  On my current watch, the button feel is all over the map.  The menu and back buttons are very stiff with zero travel (which I prefer), the down button had some slight travel, and the backlight and start/stop buttons had much longer travel.  I am not sure if I got different batch or if Garmin improved their manufacturing process.  To me, since the buttons are the only way for people to interact with the watch, Garmin should have put a lot of thought in creating the ideal feel and sound to reflect the premium positioning.

  • I ordered two Fenix 6 Pro Sapphire in two different time, the one came in first is the early batch which all the buttons function great like the one your described, but the one I just received today most recent batch "Start/Stop" button is very difficult to press down, and it feels like the button is stuck very unsmooth experience to press each time I used it. I'm OCD, but I can deal with minor cosmetic imperfection, but the button is going to be use in daily basic. I'm going to return this one, kinda disappointment for a $800 watch, come on Garmin get the quality control right.
