Sensor for Indoor Bike Speed/Distance

When I do cardio at my gym on the indoor bikes, I use the “Indoor Bike” activity. It does not reflect speed and distance (naturally). Does anyone have any sensor recommendations (to hook up to my F6) for this information to reflect on my watch real time (wheels are covered, so something on my foot is preferable).

  • Some indoor bikes like the ones at my club have an Ant+ output that can feed to the F6 watch.  Try to pair your Fenix by holding left middle button, going down to sensors and accessories and then selecting Add.

  • Yeah, unfortunately none of the machines have that option as I checked before I went down the path of spending money on a sensor.

I know you can get cadence data using a Wahoo sensor on your shoe, but speed/distance is a tough one without access to the wheel. The only speed sensors I know of count wheel revolutions (either using a magnet or an accelerator) and use the wheel circumference to calculate speed.

I suppose if you used one of the magnetic sensors you could strap the sensor to the bike and the magnet to the crank. You'd then have to figure out how many times the wheel went around for each revolution of the crank and fudge the wheel diameter to get a reasonable approximation but ti could work since the bike is fixed gear.

That would actually be a decent idea for a cadence sensor. An indoor bike mode where you could tell it how many revolutions of the wheel each revolution of the crank equals and then have the sensor send speed data to the watch as if it were a wheel speed sensor.

  • Thanks Paul for the response. I figured it would be a long shot to accomplish what I was looking to do but I figured I’d ask.

    Thanks again.
