Back button issue or normal?

Hi,

I have a Garmin Fenix 6 and I have noticed that the back button has more travel.

If you press it, it clicks, but if you release it slowly it has two clicks.

When pressed and released normally feels different to the rest of the buttons due to that double click.

It is normal?

Thanks

  • Same on my 3 left buttons on Fenix 6 pro Saphire. The Buttons have a free stroke before contacting the pcba Buttons for the effective click. On the right side the 2 buttons only have one click and nearly no stroke.

I think the pcb board ist not centrally aligned before screwing sothat some users have more stroke on the left side and some on the right side.

When pressing them fastly its ok. But feels definitely different.

Has anybody already contacted Garmin with this issue ?

    Best regards,

    Chris

  • I tried a garmin fenix 6 in a store and the buttons felt good, all buttons, including the back one.

I will return my Fenix 6.

  • i returned my fenix 6 because of this. my back button was ok, but the up and down buttons were harder to press than the other buttons and they were sticky (incl, double click when coming out). the other three buttons were fine.

  • no, not yet. perhaps i will wait a bit. there is no software at the moment anyway and perhaps garmin will optimize their production process (although i feel that garmin tends to make things worse than better).

if i buy another fenix 6 i think i will buy it in a shop, where i can touch and test it before i buy. the problem with the two buttons was very obvious from the beginning.

I thought I was the only one. My guess is that it's normal and hasn't cause any issues for me.

I am having the same issue as of today on my 6x Sapphire .... I even felt the spring just in when I pressed the up button.

It is very disappointing to have this issue at this price point and I am considering to return the watch all together.

  • I got two Fenix 6X Pros, all have the same issue. Errr...I don't know, shall I just keep it or return it. I do need it, but I don't like this double-click thing. And I'm not sure if it's going to become worse later.

  • My 6X Sapphire got replaced twice so far. Initially, I bought it in the beginning of November 2019. As of April 2021 my start, back and down button started behaving weirdly. They didn’t press normally and the start button had become even worse. On 07 of may 2020 went to the official garmin rep where I bought it and for literally 30 seconds I got a brand new replacement unit. No questions asked. On 13 of April 2021 after a trail running my watch would start an activity as if I had pressed the start button in spite of me not touching the button. Thought it was a sw issue, it happened many times the same evening so I restarted the watch a couple of times by holding down the light button for 20 seconds. The first time the watch wouldn’t boot - it just froze on the blue triangle of death. But after 10-15 times trying to boot it started again. And it began behaving normally. Then on 21 of April 2021 the start button stopped responding although mechanically it would move fine. Did a factory reset by which everything gets wiped from the wacht. On the booting the start button wouldn’t react. Went to the same official garmin rep. It took them another 30 seconds to give me a brand new one (both times got new ones, not refurbished). As of 21 of April 2021 I’m using this last third unit 6X Sapphire and having absolutely no issues. My warranty expires in the beginning of November 2021, so if the button/s break/s down, I’ll be in the market for a new one. But those buttons issues are totally not normal for me - I take good care of the watch, don’t treat it roughly at all and still got twice broken button. It’s supposed to be a rugged durable watch, right? Or am I missing something? My previous 6X Sapphire units both couldn’t last a full year. Other than that, no issues at all. Love the mapping feature, need it badly in the mountains.
