Defaults to GPS Glonass

I know there has been some discussions on GPS accuracy with the new Sony chipset.

Anyone else notice it defaults to GPS+Glonass for outdoor activities?  Did you leave it, or change it to GPS or GPS+Galileo?

  • With the 945, the first Garmin to use the Sony chipset, DCR said that GPS+Glonass was where most of the development was being done so I’ve left it there.

  • I think the MARQ was the first of the Sony chip devices, and I don't remember if it shipped with glonass enabled our if I turned that on. In general the feedback from dcr was that most development work has gone into GLONASS.

  • Interestingly, one person posted results recently of their track recorded with GPS+Galileo, and it looked really good. So if anyone is having track issues, that might be worth a try.

I've left mine on GPS+Glonass for the time being because my tracks so far have been great, but if I start seeing issues I may try Galileo and see what happens.

FWIW, when I'm messing around with my watch indoors at the office or at home, I've actually inadvertently gotten a good accurate signal lock w/ Glonass on many occasions. I don't remember ever getting a signal lock indoors before with my Vivoactive 3. So regardless of how good the chip is or isn't, the antenna certainly seems quite strong.
