Golf - Fenix 6x plus CT10

Today I made my first golf play with new Fenix 6x with CT10 sensors.

It works well, just I need more time to get used to Fenix 6x in golf after switch from S60.

  • How do you find the CT10 sensors, have heard mixed reviews? Have been tempted to get some myself.

How do you find the weight of the 6x playing golf?

  • For me CT10 was the best solution for not reading chips and puts on S60. I am happy with CT10 sensors , but after each hole you have to confirm result.

Weight of 6x during play was not changing my swing.

  • I've go them and had running on my 5X.  Just paired to a new 6X tonight without any problem.

I like them as they help me track both how many times a use a club and how long it hits.  Actually I also have an S20 now loaned out to a friend but really only want to use one watch for all activities. The S20 would guess the club used and one could confirm but the CT10's track without confirming plus gives you and estimated distance when you pull the club from bag.

I also have Truswing that helps track your swing plus use a SC300 SwingCaddie launch monitor.  So, something is tracking almost everything.

  • Gents, I need to alert you to something if you've not discovered.  Yes I like the CT10's on the Fenix as stated before but each club takes up a sensor connection and there are only 20 total on both the 5 and 6 series Fenix watches.

So if you pair a bag of 14 clubs you only have 6 sensor connections left for other activities which is far to few for an all in one watch for multiple sports.  For example, on my clubs, trainer and various bikes I have 39 sensors.  Therefore I'm limited to using my new Fenix 6X Pro to golfing, running, indoor bike trainer and swimming.

I can't attach any outdoor bikes nor can a pair a second bag of clubs.

  • Question. I have the s60 (great, great golf watch). . How easy on the Fenix is it to figure out yardages to hazards, layups...etc? Its very easy on the s60 with touch targeting. .Or do you kind of have to guess?

  • I actually love the yardage to hazards on the F6.  Basically the up/down button move an arc up and down the fairway and shows yardage.  Makes determining distance much easier in my opinion than the smaller touch screens.  This seems much more precise to me than using a touch screen to move a point around.

Default View - distances are to the pin

measure distance view - it's 358 yards to the arc

zoomed measure distance view - press the start button to zoom in.  215 yards to the arc.

  • I think the 6X with the CT10 sensors is awesome! I only have the 3 pack of sensors and got them as auto shot detection wasn’t working well for me if I didn’t make ground contact. It would only pick up about 20% of my drives. The 6X software is much improved over the 5X! How is auto shot detection working for others that don’t have CT10? I did call Garmin and said that they should allow a manual entry of a shot.

  • Auto shot detection without the CT10 is rubbish I’m afraid. Especially from the tee. Fairway shots seem to work 90% of the time but from the tee it’s around 20%. My old FR945 was excellent all round but my 6Pro has gone backwards and is as rubbish as was my old 5+.

Such shame as I find that feature so useful for tracking average distances for each club.  Maybe they are trying to force you to buy a set of CT10s.

The other upgrades for the 6 are very welcome for the Golf app.

  • After some more rounds of golf I have noticed that 6x is not asking for penalties at the end of he hole as it was by S60.

Second small problem is very sensitive sensor of putter. With 6x from time t time I see bigger number of putts then in reality - with S60 it was not a case, or even some short putts there not detected.

  • BTW what are the battery life like on CT10? Surely when in your bag and being carried they are constantly moving around and waking up?
