UTMB Tracks

For fun, found a few different watches from UTMB.

Vertix, Spartan Ultra, and a Fenix 6. Don't know anything about the watch settings (or specific fenix model) but both the Vertix and the Fenix were VERY similar. Both had some cut corners and some odd moments, although having never run the course it's tough to tell what happened.

Anyways, thought it was an interesting comparison. Vertix cuts some corners (as is typical of Coros watches) but you can definitely tell the Fenix had some artificial distance from some of the jaggedness. Splitting hairs at this point it would seem.

  • Seems like they were done at different times by different people, too. One runner/watch did 9 hours, another did 12 hours, and the 3rd runner/watch did 22 hours. It's hard to compare in this scenario, because unlike when a single runner wears multiple watches during a single run, we don't know what other variables might have affected it. Aside from their paces being quite different, the runners were most definitely passing (or moving over for) other runners in different places than each other, stopping for water or breaks at different times in different places, etc.

Still, cool to see the comparison of the 3 watches/runners on that trail, and also I hadn't seen that route map before so that was neat to check out too!

They were all running the same race in the same day. 5th place finisher, 15th place finisher then some other. Not sure on the times as it's a gpx download from Strava which gets funky.
