Music Controls Not Working During Run (Bug)

While the music controls work fine outside of activities, on my first run with the Fenix 6 today the music controls only display what is playing WITHOUT any controls. I tried to use the buttons in this screen and it triggered the 'lap' and 'start/stop' rather than music changes. See picture for example. Please fix this bug soon!

  • As the saying goes “that’s not a bug, that’s a feature”, but seriously, it isn’t a bug, that’s how it works, it seems weird I know, but it is how it is and has been since 2015 when the Fenix (3) first gained music controls.

You’re looking at the music “controls” as an activity screen, the buttons on any activity screen do what they’re meant to do during activities, as you said, stop and start the activity, laps etc. The name is unfortunate, it really is just an information screen not a control one, but you do have 2 options to actually control the music during an activity, you can press and hold the menu button whilst looking at this screen for music related actions or you can skip this screen all together and simply press and hold the down button from any activity screen and go to the actual music controls (which is what I do).

    I hope it helps.

Another option for controlling playback is to use the controls on your bluetooth headphones, depending on which headphones you are using. I have the Jabra Elite 65T and I find it's actually easier to just tap the controls on the earbuds vs use the watch controls while running.

  • Same, excellent experience with 65t and 6x pro! During run actually had both watch and Phone paired to 65t simultanuously, with option to alternate music source between them.

  • If that's the case then Garmin should call it a music info screen not "controls".

  • Sorry for asking so blunt, but I cannot find any music controls in the menu. Only settings like music provider etc. The only place I can find music controls is when I'm not in an activity and use the up / down buttons to get to the music control. Can any one point me to the music control in the menu ?

    Thanks

  • There are two ways to access music controls during an activity:

    1. You add a music screen to your activity, like you do with everything else, metrics, heart rate, but it has to be a full screen, not a small field. Once there, if you scroll to that screen during the activity you will see what's playing, once in that screen (and only in that screen) pressing and holding the Menu button will take you to the actual controls.

    2. Adding music controls to a hot key, this is actually what I do and it is way faster, you can configure hot keys which work by pressing and holding (except for the menu key which cannot be changed), I personally set the down button (left bottom button) to Music so doesn't matter where I am, activity or not, pressing and holding that button will bring the full music controls.

Hope that helps, the 2nd options is the best in my opinion.

  • Thank you for the fast answer. I think I will also go with the 2nd option.

    Cheers.
