Swimming wrist Heart Rate and calorie counting

One of the new features with the Fenix 6 series is the wrist heart rate monitoring during swimming.

Great feature,  but is does not seem to take the HR while calculating the calories of the activity:

I regularly swim 800 meters.

With the fenix 5s plus (and no external HR strap) the activity showed always 320 cals.  This has been the case throughout the summer.

Over the weekend I started using the Fenix 6s. After the 800 meters with wrist Hr, I still get 320 calories.

I consider this to be a bug,  and hope Harmin will fix it in a subsequent release... soon...

  • My forerunner 645 (no wrist heart rate nor HR strap) always give me 16 calories every 100 m: if I swim 500 m I get 80 cal, if I swim 800 m I get 128 cal every time.

  • Thank you for your response..,,  what you are saying though does not make sense in real life.  When running for example, the same distance and same route, the calories are different depending 1. On the time it takes to complete the route 2. The effort you put in (i.e the heart rate).  So you get different calories.

Why should this not be the same with swimming?

When I used the HRM Tri I got about 125 calories for the same 800 meters.  And the calories differed slightly from one day to the other.

When I used the 5s Plus without a strap,  as expected I got the same calories every time.

But the a wrist he measurement why should I not get a similar calorie calculation as to the HRM Tri .
