Fenix 6X Pro Solar and Open water swim

Got the watch this morning. Just completed my 1st swim. No heart rate data and no obvious place to switch on feature. Lots of press about how it is supported but I can't for the life of me see where.

Anyone had any success with said feature ?

It's my assumption you're referring to oHRM while swimming. On my 945 I have to go into the watch settings, and turn it on under wrist HR. Again, I'm assuming it's the same with the F6.

Yes oHRM. I looked for that setting (heart rate widget -> menu key -> options) but on my watch its not there. There's only the usual broadcast related stuff.

Have you updated the software to the latest 3.00? It’s there on my 6X Pro Solar.

Why is that an optional thing? What are the disadvantages with this on?

I guess some people with HRM Swim or HRM Tri would rather have data from those straps than the WHR. The WHR will record as you are swimming, but the HRM TRI/Swim squirts the data over to the watch after you finish (when there is a connection once out of the water). I can only assume having the WHR enabled stops that from happening.

That was it.. Why on earth the device doesn't check for a firmware update post initial setup is a developer oversight.

In my case, the oHRM readings while swimming are still far off from my Tri. If I were to forgot my strap, I would prefer that no data is recorded. Incorrect data messes up calories, training load, recovery, etc... I'm one who doesn't buy in to the "bad data is better than no data" mentality.

Mixed success with the 945 and the F6 swim I did was not stellar. WHR is heading in the right direction thought so well worth seeing how it works for you in the swim..

As for not checking for any update? Did you do a synch with Garmin Express? You might also have found the update pushed to your watch from GCM eventually too.

How did you upgraded the firmware? I have tried with Garmin express but it says up to date and no option of what while swimming???

The option to turn on WHR while swimming can be found in Settings, Sensors and Accessories, Wrist Heart Rate, While Swimming.

What firmware version do you have?
