  • Actually the Fenix E has not received the new system. It is delivered with the new system. So, it never got the system OTA... And as I said, if there is no realiable way to upgrade the whole system over the air, I woudln't do it, if I was Garmin.

Giving a huge discount to the Fenix 7 / Epix users when upgrading to the Fenix 8 could be something to consider...

  • Agreed. This will likely be my first and last.  Can't believe they would shelve software updates for models so soon. Its definitely to entice users to update. For 1k a pop thats a no from me.  I will now keep my eye out for competitors and warn others who are looking at Garmin watches.

  • I bought two Epix last summer, but I'm fed up with the Garmin scoundrels. I'm switching to Coros as soon as they release the Apex with an AMOLED screen.

  • I have given up on several Garmin products within the last 12-24 months due to “Garmin product strategy” changes. So a lot of trust lost.

My Epix Pro 51mm is mostly “hibernating” unless I go for endurance sports or sailing. Daily driver is now AWU Gen 1. I’ve been a Garmin watch user since Fenix 2 - and had almost every model - including some Quatix versions. There is nothing currently enticing me to update my watch - and I guess that is what Garmin has realised so they are trying to “push” with the stick rather than the carrot. But for me is an instant turn-off.

My Garmin Inreach Mini 2 - “subscription” has been depreciated and replaced with Starlink Mini when I sail. The new InReach subscription change was the “push”.

I used to have Garmin Marine GPSMAP’s and full set of radar, transducers etc on my boat - but again not any longer. Orca & Raymarine has won the place at the helm.
