  • I think people have different understanding of what "firmware updates" means.

Obviously. No matter how much you play with words "updates", users discussing here are not talking about bug-fixing updates, but about meaningful updates that bring new features or improve user experience. The reality some people (and Garmin) keep dismissing is that customers who invest in high-end products (such as Garmin devices) expect long-term support, and Garmin has failed to meet that expectation.

My microwave oven didn't get new features either, neither did my car

A microwave or a car doesn’t run on a software ecosystem that constantly evolves, whereas smartwatches—especially premium ones like the Fenix and Epix series—are heavily dependent on software features. Garmin’s competition (e.g., Apple, Coros, Polar) often extends feature updates to older models for longer periods.

Even more importantly, your microwave functions are same now as they were before, which is not the case for Fenix 7 and Epix watches which had several regressions due to software updates that removed some functionalities.

I agree that for smartphones at least I orient myself on products that offer updating for at least 5 years both security and software. So an Epix Pro can safely receive an upgrade such as Enduro 3, Fenix 8, etc. because it has the capabilities. they just don't want to do it currently. but at least fix the bugs that still persist even with version 20.16 recently discarded, the map freezes again when you zoom in and return to the dial.. which is not normal since in my case above all I bought this watch especially for the cartography which must be impeccable in my opinion .. Garmin is the strongest for maps on tools like this but bugs like this are not acceptable

  • Erasmo, could you translate to English your answer via Google Translator or similar tool?

  • No reply from Garmin, now the 20.xx is the Live Public version

  • Of course there is no reply, they ignore this topic (and some others as well). There is nothing good they can say so they keep quiet.

  • Many valid points raised by the community here and prior threads. Candidly, Management has already moved on to other investments. Unfortunately, epix buyers have been marginalized as a result. You'll be lucky if any software updates or features get released. My epix gen 2 pro hasn't properly updated since Nov. of 2024.

I couldn't be more dissatisfied spending $1000 and finding out the watch was quietly discontinued last fall. During the summer 2024, Garmin continued to strongly campaign the Epix line. Not a single communication or email from the company to give notice or reassurance of future support. I feel the rug was completely yanked from under me.

The best thing anyone can do here is share your experiences to others IRL. Over time, if enough share, in the right platforms, public opinion can shift. Reputation  matters. Look at Blackberry, Pan Am, Aol, etc. Companies choose to listen or ignore customer feedback.
