Announcements language switches to english every start

Hi, every time I restart my Epix Pro watch and start an activity the language for the announcements on my headset is in English and Female although German is selected in the settings of my watch. If I go into the announcements settings and switch the language to another language and back to German, the announcements come back in the right language at my headset. At the next restart of the watch, the announcements are back again in English. The problem is only when using a bluetooth headset connected directly to my watch. When using my phone with garmin connect and get the announcements on the speakers of the phone the language is always correct in German. I've already done a hard reset, deleted watch from connect but to no avail.

Has anyone an idea? Perhaps restoring the voice files on the watch?

Best regards

  • It is not possible, because the fix is here, hidden and not tested during beta.

    Joy

And finally 19.34 was released too quickly as usual, and now we have a 19.38 beta to test Thinking

  • Hi Garmin-Laurie,

I just installed update 19.38 and the problem with the audio prompt on earphones still exist. Do I (and others) have to call the support or can you get this issue to your engineers?

    Best regards

  • Hi again, even with the last update to 20.22 the problem still exists. Every restart of my watch gets the female english voice back although in the settings it says german.

    I am not very happy,,,

  • Hello, I have the same problem...with each new activity the announcements are in English with a female voice while the default setting is French...

  • Exactly the same problem : 20.22 on Epix Pro. Each time I restart the watch the issue is back. Same when I switch from one headset to another

  • Although the language is set to Polish it sometimes navigates me in English.
I think it happens when my headset is directly connected to the phone.
I select other dialect and then again Polish to have my settings back. This bug is annoying and it has existed for at least a few months now.

It is recommended to have the headset paired directly with the watch only, as opposed to with the phone, or with the phone and watch. This is because when this is paired with the phone, your phone speakers, or another device paired to your phone is doing audio playback for alerts, your phone's Text-To-Speech (TTS) settings will determine the playback language and voice.

  • Honestly this is not a good answer

You could imagine that we don’t use only headset for the few nav instructions from the device. Personally it’s connected to my phone for calls during my ride and connection to the EPIX PRO is a kind of bonus.

My iPhone and my EPIX watch are in French. Each time I switch from on helmet headset to another helmet headset I need to reconfigure the language on the Epix to put it back to French. Same if I restart the EPIX between 2 headset connections.
Of course when I go to the config on the Epix I see French as setup but the instructions from the watch are in English… The only solution is to switch the setup on the Epix to English then back to French.

  • As already discussed when this feature was introduced a year ago, TTS is not the explanation of all this discrepancy in the result of Audio Prompt with Garmin's watch.

But Garmin doesn't listen to our feedback, that is a fact.

  • Hello.
My headset is paired with the the phone as well as the garmin watch itself.
When i do exercises having the phone with me I often listen to the music from Spotify and get audio announcements (I don't know if they come from watch itself or directylfrom Garmin App). The clue is - they are in Polish, as they were set. So no issues here.

    BUT

When i decide to go running without the phone (you know - comfort, less weight, etc.) I manually connect (already paired) headphones directly to the watch (phone is already far away, so it can't interfere). As soon as my activity begins, the announcements are generated in English. Although the dialect is set to Polish (checked on the watch).

In order to revert announcements to Polish I need to switch the dialect to another one and set it again to Polish.

So I think TTS is not an issue here. The watch simply doesn't respect the chosen dialect and it is the problem you should dive into.

I would like also to ask you to fix the spelling error when checking for a new software. Instead of "Żądanie danych aktualizacji oprogramowanie" should be "Żądanie danych aktualizacji oprogramowania". Or it would be even better to name it "Wyszukiwanie aktualizacji" (searching for the update)  which sounds way more natural in Polish.

    Thank you
