I had the same issue on 18.16 with my Epix Pro and last Garmin Connect app on my iPhone 15 Pro Max with last iOS 18 update.
Your workaround worked perfectly in my case.
To give a little more details :
I used Garmin Connect web page in Safari on my iPhone, I choosed « send to » and selected the Epix on my course page then you can choose « open in Garmin Connect » and it’s automatically synchronized to the Epix.
I just hope I will have the turn-by-turn info during my ride with this workaround.
