ECG Europe status update please (cmon)

Not sure of specific EU rules, but often the regulatory rules around approval of medical devices (which is what is required for ECG's) are pretty restrictive of even allowing you to say that you have applied for medical device status. 

I strongly suspect that EU rules will not allow Garmin to provide an update. Blame the EU bureaucracy.

It's easy to always blame the EU. The fact is, however, other manufacturers have been much quicker with the implementation and more open with communication. Garmin isn't doing well here.

The Venu 2 Plus got ECG in January 2023. I would put money on it that Garmin haven't even tried to get it approved in Europe. I am certainly not holding my breath for my Fenix 7 Plus to get it.

Nothing happens with Garmin Pay either. They can afford (for now) to ignore the users. But pride comes before a fall.

Apple took way less time (ok Apple is bigger but still at least update the customers).

I would not blame EU bureaucracy. The requirements under the Medical Device Requirements 2017/745 require a high level of evidence to demonstrate the safety and benefit of for example ECG. And from a medical perspective, ECG in a watch is more a gimmick that a useful medical tool.

Furthermore, failing to live up to the medical claims a company makes, could lead to to legal consequences.

Technically, getting an ecg requires at least 3 different points of contact on the human body. Typically, you would use 2 arms and a leg to get a reliable ECG.

Garmin pay works well in Germany?! I used it this morning. Where are you located?

the US and the EU have different regulations that apply.

I’ve had Garmin pay for many years now in NL, kinda depending on the banks too.
