Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2 keeps rebooting endlessly

I've been using Epix Pro Gen 2 for six months. After the function of turning on the screen with a hand-raising gesture stopped working, I turned off the watch through the menu. After this, the clock does not turn on completely. When I press the "Light" button, the initial screen with the "Epix Pro" logo appears and after 20 seconds the screen turns off for 4 seconds, after which the screen with the "Epix Pro" logo turns on again for 20 seconds and then the screen turns off again for 4 seconds. This cycle repeats for several hours. When you press and hold the "Light" button, the watch turns off completely. When connected to a computer, neither Garmin Express nor WebUpdater detects the watch.

Please tell me how to solve this problem.

  • Hi, i had the same issue.

    For me worked this way:

    - connect via USB to a PC

    - wait till the bootloop start

    - disconnect the usb

    - Power off

    - press and hold the Start/ Stop Button

    - reconnect the usb and hold the Button Start/ Stop

    - go to the Win Explorer and Demeter all files in Garmin / RemoteSW

    - Reboot the watch

For me worked this way fine

  • Mac.
Garmin Express does see the watch, kinda syncs, but all the available updates do not install. When plugged off - boot looping as usual

  • Install openMTP or adroid file transfer to access the watch file system on MAC

  • Is it safe to resync/restore backup to your watch once you have gotten rid of the GPE File?

  • Yes i´ve also restored my backup and watch is still functional without any problems

  • My Epix Pro won't restart even after all the advice on the website  (relates to the Jan 2025 issue with the Epix Pro screen just being shown)

I have tried all the advised fixes to reset the watch,  it just won't move from the EPIX Pro boot-up screen, i can't connect it to Garmin Connect app as Bluetooth hasn't started on the watch, i cant connect it to the Garmin Express as it's not booted far enough to be seen as a device on my laptop,  tried all types of factory resets and hard reboots as suggested nothing is working, its just a very expensive paper weight!  HELP :)

  • was in same case as you
I could bring it back to life when keeping the start button pushed (upper right) before connecting to PC
it might not work first time, may need several tries, but that is the key to get it back alive

  • Work around for Mac users:

    1. My Epic Pro 51 MM Sapphire was stuck on the Epix screen.  The screen stayed on all the time and at regular intervals would blink off and then return on again.

    2. Perform a hard reset following Garmin's instructions.

    3. Now power the watch off completely. Hold the off button for 20 or so seconds.

    4. Plug your Garmin cable into your watch, press and hold the START button, then plug the Garmin cable into your MacBook.

    5. Continue to hold the START button for quite some time until your Garmin watch stops blinking on and off at the Epix screen.  The screen should stay on solid.  Once it is on solid release the START button.

    6. My Mac did not recognize my watch in Finder, so I downloaded the Android File Transfer program (free), installed it, and using that app it immediately listed my watch as a device.

    7. Navigate to the Garmin/remotesw folder. In there I found the gpe.bin file and deleted.  There were two others I deleted as well. Shutdown the app.

    8. Safely eject your Garmin.  Power it off completely and reboot.  It should reboot as if it were brand new, reloading maps, etc., Takes a few minutes.

    9. I deleted my old watch from Garmin Connect as my primary device.  Once my watch finished booting it asked me if wanted to pair with my phone, select yes, should display setup QR code, use your iPhone camera and it will begin setup between the watch and Connect.

    10. Last step, once setup it asked me if I wanted to restore from the latest back up, which I did and most important settings were restored.

    Hope this helps.

Previously I tried to connect to the Garmin Express App which recognized my watch despite being stuck on the Epix screen, it supposedly allowed me to restore to backup, and install updates, but the watch came out of the frozen state.

  • Same problem here since yesterday,  1/28/25.
