Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2 keeps rebooting endlessly

I've been using Epix Pro Gen 2 for six months. After the function of turning on the screen with a hand-raising gesture stopped working, I turned off the watch through the menu. After this, the clock does not turn on completely. When I press the "Light" button, the initial screen with the "Epix Pro" logo appears and after 20 seconds the screen turns off for 4 seconds, after which the screen with the "Epix Pro" logo turns on again for 20 seconds and then the screen turns off again for 4 seconds. This cycle repeats for several hours. When you press and hold the "Light" button, the watch turns off completely. When connected to a computer, neither Garmin Express nor WebUpdater detects the watch.

Please tell me how to solve this problem.

  • Support ist überlastet. Warte schom seit 1 Stunde im Chat

  • I am not sure is the short answer to your question, I am scared to start another run because I started experiencing the issue  when i started a run earlier today.

  • After deleting the GPE.bin file, I have done tracking a walk, did not crash though.

  • the garmin/remotesw directory is empty

  • I will try the same and see how it goes

  • Sorry, not sure then, probably you will have to wait for Garmin's official fix.

  • It is a problem with a faulty GPE file. It can be fixed without hard reset.

     - Connect the watch to the computer
     - Hard power down the watch by holding the light/power key for ~30 seconds.
     - Press light/power key once and immediately press the start/stop key. Hold start/stop key for 30 seconds
     - Check the computer to see if the device mounted
     - In the Garmin/RemoteSW/ directory, delete the GPE.bin file
     - Disconnect the watch from the computer.

Do not connect the watch to the phone until Garmin has repaired the GPE.bin file!!!

  • Same problem on my Epix 2 (non pro) happened like an hour ago randomly when I looked at my watch and scrolled down, once it came to the barometer it went into boot loop.

Now I've tried all the things mentioned here, but haven't been able to do anything; connecting to my PC doesn't work, it keeps boot looping so I hear and see the garmin device be detected but only for a few seconds and then it disconnects and back to boot looping. So I am unable to get to the point of seeing the file directory to delete the file.

Also I cannot even factory reset it with the buttons only. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but to do a button factory reset you just hold the "back" button and then turn it on with the "light" button and keep holding "back"?

Doing this also did not work, it just keeps boot looping and I can't do anything at all.

  • Correction: I was able to access it on my PC!

Tried with a different cable, used my laptop, installed Garmin Express and kept the cable connected and kept pressing and clicking the start button until finally after about 5 minutes I see the prompt about the device being setup and I was able to see the EPIX directory in file explorer. Deleted the GPE.bin file, disconnected and my watch was able to boot up normally. Turned off bluetooth on my phone to prevent it from connecting to the apps.

  • My Epix Pro 51 mm Sapphire started to have this issue after walking activity. Just stopped outta nowhere and didn't tell me anything, just awakened to a bootloop. This fixed it, I deleted only the BPE.bin and the watch booted just fine. The timestamp for this file was 28th January 2025, time 14:21 (GMT +2). I vontacted Garmin so they can know that mine had issues too. Hopefully they'll come up with an answer so the watch won't do this again. Usually Garmin watches have been rock solid for me on the software side, tracking is what is it, but never any major bugs etc. Was quite surprised that it bootlooped. Imagine being dependent on the watch, like walking with only the watch on forest and relying on it to guide you back home. Unacceptable bug!
