Nap feature is recording chilling on the couch as naps

When laying on the couch I get it recorded as naps, I think the nap feature should be non-automatic and required an enable/disable. At least a possibility for people to decide if they want it auto tracked or not, cause as it is now, it’s recording too many naps that are not naps.

  • Same here. Recorded a Nap while I’m sat in a chair on an iPad. The ability to delete false naps work be good. Or like you say, turn off automatic detection, but I guess that would affect sleep monitoring at night.

I’ve messaged Garmin-Cody directly as requested.

  • Mine hasn't detected a single nap, yet. Probably my heart rate was too high during my naps. However, my Ōura ring has detected all of my naps, so it is possible, just not with Garmin, apparently.

Garmin has to go a long way to be on par with the state of the art in sleep tracking. It really lags behind players such as Ōura or Apple. I don't think the premium prices of Garmin products are justified at the moment.

  • Nap function isn't working for me either and I've joined the testing pool to help solve this. It's still shocking how such an industry giant can't get this working correctly  With that said, except for sleep tracking (regular sleep and naps), Garmin watches are worth the price of admission.  Knowing or not knowing properly calculated naps isn't going to be a show stopper for my usage.  But for a $1,000 watch, we expect perfection.

  • I also got a lot of fake naps, and worse, some of the fake naps are converted to sleep since last more than 3 hours which overwrites the nights sleep and thus changes the training readiness which in turn has a major effect on the Daily suggestion due to incorrect bad sleeping)

Some major SW versions I had this issue with fake sleep frequently and worked it out with Garmin support provided a lot of data and over the last SW releases the sleep detection improved a lot and in 14.XX the fake sleeps was almost non existent. However with the release of 15.XX the watch started to show a lot of fake naps which in some cases was converted to sleep due to that the fake nap lasted more than 3 hours.

I am well trained with a resting pulse below 50, often has low stress levels at work (watch shows around 20 or less) and I work as a software developer and can sometimes sit still for hours in front of computer without much movement other than typing the keyboard. In such situations the watch starts to think I am napping and if continuing for some hours then it thinks it was a sleep. This is a big problem for me that use training readiness and daily suggestions since an incorrect bad sleep has major impact this functionality.

I would strongly suggest that for people like me and others that have problem with automatic sleep and nap detection that you add an option to these features so that you can chose to either have them automatically detected or manually triggered by user. If option is automatically then everything work as it is now and if manually then it requires the user to start and stop sleep and nap.

  • No previous issues with sleep detection. I now have multiple long duration naps recorded whilst working at the computer or watching TV, I'd like to be able to just shut it off.

  • I am reaching out to you via direct message to get some additional info from you. Thank you for commenting and I look forward to your reply via direct message

  • Today it recorded a 30min nap that never existed, when I woke up in the morning, my night sleep was below 7 hours, after the nap it’s now showing I had over 8 hour sleep and training load went down. What’s going on, why can’t this feature be disabled

  • Buying an epix pro, high quality premium watch with a premium price you don’t want these sort of bugs that screw up the entire metrics’s. I’m honestly about to sell it

  • Is it possible to roll back to previous firmware? These nap issues was reported extensively while version 15.x was in beta so I don’t get why it got rolled out

    • I don't think there is an official way to do this.  I think you'd end up bricking the watch if you tried to downgrade on your own.
