Will the updated/more detailed Golf maps of Approach S70 be coming to Epix Gen2/Fenix 7?

The course maps of the new Approach S70 are more colorful and show tree detail. Will these updated maps be coming to the Epix Gen 2 and Fenix 7?

  • But what msquared2 is saying is that the specific MARQ 2 Golfer, is their Marketed Luxury Golf watch, yet it does not have the look and feel of the new s70 that cost 60% less almost.  Those new updates should come to a luxury golf watch that is advertised at 2300$ at the minimum is what we are saying. The epix pro is marketed as a does everything watch essentially with built in golf features that mimic the s62.  For this watch to be 899 and marketed as "Pro" and coming out a week after the s70, it should've retained some of the new visuals.  It's not a functionality issue, but a visual thing.

  • Look and feel - Marq has much better look and feel - but then that is always subjective.

If you are refering to the UI then again that is subjective. I personally find the FR265 / FR965 and parts of the venu 2 UI feel a bit cartoonish and not serious - but again this is subjective. For something like this its always going to be subjective, but I do think while the Fenix/Epix/Marq (and variants) range could do with some visual improvements to the UI (some of which are already starting to flow through with the roll out of 13.22) I do hope that as per what they have done it retains a more serious/refind style to it.

Features - as stated it has most of the S70 features - its just the new bits - like getting all the new play as data on the hole screen and other visual info tweaks like that. Personally still not overly fond of the almost cartoonish aspect of the UI style - but agree it would be nice if those features and how i works is ported to the Fenix/Epix/Marq (and variants line).

  • Yeah we are talking strictly on the new golf UI that is implemented in the s70. Hoping it comes to the epix and Marq. They are refreshing to see. Maps look great. Hopefully they port it over

  • I just bought Epix Gen 2 as I compared the spec from your website for Golf features which were exactly same with S70 (line by line). Please do not disapoint users similar to me!

  • we are talking more about the visuals of the s70 onto the epix line. The "Features" are the same, but the s70 has enhanced visuals that should come to the epix line. Especially a "Pro" edition of a previous generation

  • As an EPIX Pro owner (marathon runner, plus biking and hiking and skiing) who is also an avid golfer (tee time later today) I am frustrated with how hard it is to get detailed info from Garmin on the one thing we care most about: actual objective features! All of the style / color / UI questions are completely subjective. Here is a super recent / informative article: https://www.playbetter.com/blogs/running/garmin-fenix-7-pro-epix-pro-approach-s70-which-should-you-buy

They conclude that, if you ignore all elements of "style" and just consider the objective FEATURES ... S70 and EPIX are completely identical with just this difference:

"The only golfing features you will get exclusively on the Approach S70 are Swing Tempo and TruSwing compatibility."

Assuming this is true, then I suppose this is not worth me getting all "angry" about, but I would ask Garmin: why NOT provide exact feature parity amongst EPIX / MARQ Golfer / S70? There is no hardware reason for it, just get the firmwares aligned and make your premium customers happy. Is that so hard?   (And in the case of TruSwing, it is costing Garmin potential sales to limit that compatibility to approach ... again Garmin's sloppy product strategy is sooo frustrating! I mean TAKE MY MONEY please garmin ... oh wait my  brand new $1000 watch isn't TruSwing compatible?!?)

  • What's funny is that the Epix pro has Swing tempo as an activity that you can use, so it's really only truswing is the difference. I know the features are like identical on golf aspect, but the s70 golf menus and images just look so much more premium than the epix line. And if you are buying a "Pro" marketed watch, that came out the same time as a watch that has visual enhancements, and charge 200$ more for 2 year ago graphics, of course I'm gonna complain about it. What's really pro?

  • I’ve just got a Marq adventurer gen 2, expected the golf maps to be the same as the s70, they’re not, so disappointed, it’s almost triple the price of the s70, yet lacking features, my previous Marq had the same version as the s62, what’s going on, why aren’t we told of coming updates, I’ll be returning the watch if I don’t find out soon whether an update will feature new golf maps.

  • I think this is the final straw for me.

With apple's announced new improvements with watchOS 10 and Garmin not taking a customer first approach I can do one thing....

Abandon Garmin and move to Apple with Arcos or some other app.

I will give Garmin 3 months to do the right thing, but I fully expect them not to.

  • Thank you for your reply and updates. As Golf is the primary sport I play and I've chosen EPIX (Gen2) as I prefer the premium feel vs S70. I am sure there are similar users who are thinking the same. An Alternative is Apple Watch Ultra + Accoss and the upcoming Apple WatchOS 10 looks very promising for Golf users.
